5.0 out of 5 stars Tandy, February 23, 2006
This review is from: Lowdown 1997-2002 (Audio CD)
I heard a Tandy song on the American station on XM. I bought this album and feel very fortunate to have found this band. I bought the last two albums and have not been able to bring myself to listen to anything else for days. If you are looking at this review then you have an idea of what this band sounds like, so do yourself a favor and buy this album and their latest two "Did you think I was gone?" and "To a friend".

4.0 out of 5 stars A Career Retrospective?, March 11, 2003
By A Customer
This review is from: Lowdown 1997-2002 (Audio CD)
While Tandy is a fine band with a devoted underground following, I'm not sure if a career retrospective is really needed here, but it is certainly welcome.

Loyal fans will probably already have all 3 Tandy CDs, however this collection might encourage new listeners to come aboard. If you've never heard Tandy's music, it's a urban folk/roots rock mixture, highlighted by lead singer Mike Ferrio's rough-edge soulful singing. Soundwise, the band reminds me of Good Earth-era Feelies, although considerably warmer and less idiosyncratic than that legendary band. Whether delivering a folky ballad such as 'Truth Is Better Than A Lie', or delving into something more adventurous such as the excellent 'Pictures of China', Tandy's songs connect more often than not.

Overall a pretty good selection, although I would have liked to have seen 'No Earthly Reason' and 'First Thing Broken', ( from Some Summers Day), and 'The Stations' and 'That's My Candle' (Bloodroot Transcriptions) included. And the cover of Sister Golden Hair sounds too much like America and not enough like Tandy.

Tandy's music is the aural equivalent of pulling a chair up to a warm fire on a cold winter night listening to a old friend you haven't seen in years spin tales.
