I bought this for a trip to Peru and Ecuador, since I wanted a carry-on so I wouldn't be separated from my luggage and I could avoid fees. My girlfriend bought the Osprey Porter 46 Travel Pack, so I'll compare the two. First off, I'll say this is a great bag if you pack light, want a carry-on, but don't want of those g*****n wheelie things (which work REALLY poorly when you are traveling independently in the developing world). It is 200 cubic inches smaller than the Osprey. I think you could jam more than that into the Osprey, if you tried (it "expands" more). I think the smallness was good, because I was never worried that I wouldn't be able to carry-on, while my GF was concerned at some points because the Osprey was bulkier (since different airlines, especially foreign ones, have different size restriction). The internal compression straps rock (none of any consequence in the Osprey - only external, which are good) and the outside ones allowed you to stuff it full, but maintain a nice, compact bundle. The outside pocket was nice too - you couldn't really fit too much in it (tickets, some magazines, pens, etc.), but it is accessible without loosening compression straps, which you couldn't do with the Osprey (Osprey ones were much smaller and had no organizing features). This also comes with a shoulder strap, which I used WAY more than the backpack straps - it slings over my shoulder easily. The Osprey has D-rings for a shoulder strap, but doesn't come with one. Styling/colors are quite nice - doesn't look too "sporty," but doesn't have the dork factor/ugliness of the g*****n wheelie things. Overall build quality is pretty good - not a cheesy pack.

As for the drawbacks - the backpack straps are only of mediocre quality.

I purchased this bag for a 3 week trip through Africa. It didn't disappoint. It is a great size and with the shoulder straps, backpack straps and grab handles it is easy to carry and move about with.
The bag is well thought out and very well built - I'm sure I'll be using it for years to come.

The Main compartment swallowed a ton of gear and clothing. I was able to put in a small DSLR camera bag, a long lens, computer, iPad, noise canceling headphones, books and clothing no problem. The bag opens up completely so you can really pack things in there.

Organizer pocket is great tons of pockets for pens and little stuff that get lost in the bottom of the bag.

Outer zipper pocket. I kept this empty till I had to go through security. Great place for wallet, phone, change and keys while moving through security.

I held back 1 star for a few minor points. One, needs a handle on the bottom maybe not as beefy as the one on top but it would have been helpful in a few situations. Second the outer organizer pocket isn't "gusted" so that it can expand. So if you over fill the main compartment it make using the outer pocket tough. Last the shoulder straps could have a little more padding. I wore it for a VERY long walk through Frankfurt airport and getting rough on my shoulders towards the end.

If you buy this bag and I recommend you do. Try packing it a few times before you hit the airport. I made a big blunder and put my computer all the way on the bottom and I had to dig for a few minutes to get it out. Another note think about using the internal compression in the main compartment like a divider things you won't need to get your hands on verses things you do.

I purchased this carry-on about 1 year ago and have used it quite a bit. I searched for the perfect bag for a couple of months before buying this bag due to all the great reviews and can say that all the reviews are true. I prefer the "bookbag" style as it is easier for me to get around and properly distribute the weight when I fill this bag to capacity. I have tried using it in the "sling" configuration, but found it a little awkward as it bounced around whenever I was hustling to catch a flight. This bag is extremely well made with quality materials, stitching, straps, and zippers. Additionally it packs very well, as I can fit a ton of clothes in the main compartment and secure them with the interior straps to keep the neat. It also has numerous pockets that are great for everything else. The large exterior pocket fits my macbook quite well and the small exterior pocket is perfect for my passport/tickets/ipod/chargers/books/etc. Overall, I have been very happy with this purchase and can highly recommend it to anyone.

High quality bag! Plenty of space for 2-3 days worth of clothing, plus all the extras you might need. I've also taken netbooks and an iPad in here in addition to clothes and it's fit without a problem.

I've owned this thing for about 2 years now and have taken this on trips in Europe, the Middle East, and the US and it has held up splendidly. I actually threw a ton of abuse at it and I never had a single problem.

As for sizing, I'm 6'1 and 200 lbs and this fits my body size quite well. I'd say this is a good bag for those people up to 6'2". If you're bigger or heavier, I'm not sure you'd find it all that comfortable. I would definitely recommend this bag to any casual traveler!
