I am a big fan of portable GPS receivers. I have owned close to a dozen units over the years and currently have about six. Some I use some for hiking or geocaching and others I use when driving or traveling.

After choosing a model and mounting accessory that's right for you the next important decision is finding a protective case that's going to hold everything that you need to take with you. There are plenty of nice cases made for hand-held GPS's but when it comes to automotive units it's much harder the find the right one.

I really like this case from Lowe Pro. It's big enough to hold your GPS, the power cord, a window or friction mount and a few other small accessories yet is still small enough to travel with. I would prefer one a little smaller but then it probably wouldn't hold every thing. I really nice feature is that the exterior pocket (the one that holds the GPS) is padded on both sides for extra protection.

I thought that a video review would help potential buyers to get a better idea as to whether this case would work for them or not. Thanks!

Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount

I frequently travel for my job and bought a GPS to save money, as Hertz charges $12.99/day. I was looking for a case to hold the GPS unit, friction mount (Garmin sandbag style), car charger, and USB cable. This case holds all of it perfectly! Other cases I tried had advertised all these items would fit, but I felt like I was going to break something if I forced the case shut....they were just to cramped. This one shuts easily with all the items in place. The GPS unit fits neatly in a separate well padded compartment, complete with a microfiber cloth to clean the screen.

If you are looking for some tiny bag to fit in a purse, or small laptop bag, this is not for you. If you are looking or a relatively small bag to store everything you need for the GPS, look no further...this is it!

I will admit I own another Lowepro GPS case and thought it was the best. However, after using it for months I soon discovered it did not have the room I needed for my GPS and accessories. I own several GPS's but my favorite one that I travel with is Garmin nüvi 255 3.5-Inch Portable GPS Navigator . I take this on my long distance trips. On the actually GPS is a bracket to place on the windshield mount. With my other bag I did not have room for the bracket and thought I lost it since I placed it elsewhere. I ended up even buying another bracket that cost me $15. When I received this bag I was happy at the size of it! I was able to place my GPS inside which is protected by a microfiber built in cloth. I was also able to place the bracket I was misplacing, the windshield mount, and also the auto power cord. I also bought the Garmin Portable Friction Dashboard Mount over the holidays and I have that in the bag too! I still have room for other stuff but I am so happy everything I need for my Garmin is now in one place.

I have owned this bag for several weeks now and have been taking trips down South on the weekend. Instead of wondering where each part of the GPS is located I can now just grab the bag and everything is where it needs to by. Granted the bag is not tiny but knowing I can place all my accessories in it without rebuying them because I thought I lost them is priceless to me. I highly recommend this if you have more than a GPS to protect and have a lot of accessories like I do.

The Lowepro Navi Traveler GPS Case is a good option for those looking for protection and organization of the GPS and peripherals. If you need a case for your GPS to live in, this is the one. This case is not compact, but it has compartments for just about every GPS accessory you could think of.

The large size is even larger than one might imagine for a GPS case. But in terms of organization and storage, there are few cases out there that can rival this one.

The unit will accommodate standard 3.5 inch and widescreen 4.3 inch GPS units and may even fit some units up to 5 inches. It's marketed for the Garmin nuvi. Popular models like the Garmin nüvi 765/765T GPS will fit fine.

CONCLUSION

This case has a premium price but for the most part includes premium features to go along with it. If you need something to keep all your GPS stuff in one place and don't mind the large size, this is perfect. This is too large to fit in a small or medium purse, but a larger purse would accommodate it. The only real drawback is the lack of rubber feet or treads to place this unit open on your dashboard while driving. Given the high quality of the unit, the pros outweigh the cons.

Lowepro Navi Traveler is a solid case for your 5-inch GPS (or smaller) and also fit other electronics item (Ipod, PDA, Cameras etc). It have separate compartments for the GPS unit, and for the GPS accessories (base, charger, etc). It has the strap to secure the GPS while being stored in the case (and will also fit smaller size GPS). It also has a wider base design to fit well on a car center console or glove box (It will be a personal preference whether one will like the wider base design)

5. Can also fit other electronic items like Iphone/Ipod/PDA or camera.

7. Wider base (one side) so it is more stable when placed in the center console or glove box.

Cons:
1. The wider base makes it looks different than your normal cases (as if it is meant to be set in the center console of a car or stored in the glovebox rather than to be carried around).
2. A bit bulky (thick, but not heavy)

This case is well constructed and should provide years of use. It is sized to fit most GPS units on the market. It contains a larger area on the bottom to store a GPS mount. A microfiber cloth is even included for cleaning purposes. Within its pice range this is my favorite case of the many I have tried.

I have the 285 and the 780 Garmin GPS units. They come with the suction mount for the windshield, and I also purchased the models with the MSN Traffic power cord. In addition I use a stereo audio cord to plug the unit's music feature into the auxiliary input on the cars stereo. In addition I have the owner's instruction manual. All of these items sit loosely, or tucked as best as possible in my glove box, which is a rather random sloppy way of keeping everything untangled and organized. Then along comes Lowepro Traveler protective case. Everything and I mean everything fits comfortably into this case.
One of the challenges of owning a GPS is hiding it when not in use, or between uses so thieves don't break a window and steal your unit. GPS's are high demand items in the stolen goods market. I have even heard of thieves looking for the suction cup mounting marks on the glass as an indication that a GPS is hiding inside. So leaving your cords all hooked up, and draping over your dash or console is a dead giveaway. Will this carrying case remove this obstacle? No, but it does provide you with an easy to use method to store them in between uses.
The fabric that covers this unit is something that you would expect to see on a good piece of luggage. It appears very well made. The design is ideal. The lower level has a foam padded adjustable center divider so your expensive gear doesn't rub against one another when transporting. That is where I place the MSN traffic power cord, as well as the suction mount. On the top of the case is a well designed pouch with a separate zipper flap access, complete with its own wiping cloth. Additionally there are a set of criss cross straps so your GPS is not sliding around, or banging up and down. The walls of that compartment are padded as well.
The one thing that may people may not care about, but I do, and that is how good it looks. This is a gloat worthy case. It has a sophisticated look about it. The material is very durable, and this case should give you many, many years of use. Highly recommended. I am thinking of getting another one for the other unit.

I bought this because of the video review. I needed a compact bag to store my GPS and accessories when not in use, BUT still handy enough to "grab-and-go"

I place my GPS in one of those slide cases with a flap. And with the added bulk, the GPS in the case fit inside the outside pocket of this bag. The larger compartment underneath fits the car charger, USB cord, and dashboard/windshield suction mounts.

I wanted a case to hold my GPS (Garmin Nuvi 255w), the suction cup mount, the power cord and USB cord for storage around the house. This case is the perfect size to accomodate all these items without being overly bulky and allows me to keep all my GPS things together. This case also fits in my center console and glove compartment. It is large enough to fit all these items so if you are looking for something compact, this isn't the case for you but by the same token, it is not too large.

This item was just as I ordered. My TomTom fits perfectly in it along with the car charger. I can just slip in under the seat out of site when I'm not using it.Love it.
