Lowepro Topload Zoom 55AW Camera Bag (Black)

Long enough to fit a Canon EF 100-400mm f4.5-5.6L IS USM Telephoto Zoom Lens while attached to a Canon T1i camera (with the sun shade on the lens in the flipped around packed position).

Velcro divider that can separate two smaller lenses.

Lid has a zippered compartment with a protective triangle of fabric to tuck the zipper pull behind to not scratch the camera. (See note on camera lid in cons below.)

Loops on exterior webbing (possible use for slipping a small travel tripod through).

D-rings on top strap and more importantly on the bottom of this long bag can be used to keep the bag from flopping around while walking.

Handy rain cover for the bag that is attached to the bag and tucks neatly in the flap located at the back of the bag.

Belt loop attachment.

Carrying handle is sturdy and comfortable in the hand.

The lid could be made out of a soft fabric versus nylon which would provide a softer surface as it does touch the camera screen. A thick micro fiber type fabric would be nice.

Exterior zippered compartment could be used for a flash unit if the compartment were padded.

This case would have received 4 stars if it had more padding in the bottom of the bag to protect the lens.

I ordered the 55 AW for my D5100 with 70-300 VR zoom lens and hood attached, but it fell over 1 inch short of fitting, with hood in shooting position. When I reversed the hood, it barely fit; but the hood's outter edge snagged on the lower seams of the velcro that is sewn halfway down inside (for a divider), while trying to pull it back out of the case. It was frustrating to get it back out once, and I did not put it back in again; I was afraid I would break my hood or tear up the lens/camera trying to get it out. The padding is also thin on the 55 model, and does not seem adequate enough for the safety of my equipment, when wilderness hiking. However, I just got the PRO 75 AW, and it is perfect!!! Much better built in terms of padding and pockets; it holds my camera with battery grip, 70-300mm zoom lens attached and hood on, in shooting position. And it also holds my 18-55 wide angle zoom in the upper compartment in front, and extra batteries and a micro cloth in the lower. It came with both chest harness and padded shoulder strap, and is exactly what I needed for trail photography; I LOVE IT!!! For whatever reason, Amazon would not let me review the PRO 75, saying I had already reviewed it, and asked if I wanted to edit. When I clicked the link, it brought me here, to my review of the 55 AW, so I edited. The 4 stars is for the PRO 75; I originally only gave the 55 AW a 3 star rating, and that was being generous.

I bought the Lowepro 55 AW intending to use it for two lenses, a Nikkor 35mm 1.8 below the horizontal divider and a 16-85 VR mounted on a Nikon D5100 above the divider, with hood extended. I'll also be using it with a 70-300 VR (hood extended) on the D5100 with the divider removed. If the 13" height, as stated in the Amazon description was accurate, this would have been no problem, however the actual exterior height of the bag is only 11". The 13" height appears to include the floppy handle on top. The interior height of the bag is 10.2", and the horizontal divider is over 1/4" thick. I also considered a Think Tank Digital Holster 40 v2, which expands height-wise, but seems to have less storage in the exterior pocket, is a bit heavier and more expensive.

I can still make the Lowepro work for my intended uses, but the fit is tight, with the back of the camera extending slightly above the top of the bag when opened. The flap must then be pushed down around the edges to be able to zip it closed. I'm going to keep it, since I like everything else and don't want to step up to the much larger Pro 75 model. If you'll be using lenses shorter than mine, or if you don't need the lens hoods extended while in the bag, you'll be fine. The only other issues I have with the bag are the use of plastic rings that attach to the strap (though they'll probably be okay) and the horizontal divider, which could have been designed to allow easier access to the contents below it without having to undo and re-position the velcro each time.

Also note that other brands' "modular" accessory cases won't necessarily fit on the Lowepro modular system. I bought a Tamrac lens case after reading a review saying it'll work w/ Lowepro. Not so - the "attachment flap" is too wide to fit under the Lowepro "attachment strap" sewn onto the side of the bag. I'll need to exchange the Tamrac lens case for a Lowepro.

Have lots of bags, all LowePro 'cause they are AAAAA quality for price. Just bought this bag in blue but identical. Wanted the Toploader Pro 75. At half the price this was my choice after measuring my camera and 70-200 @ 10.5" length. Fits 55 with room for lens hood (big/reversed) and some extra padding on bottom to raise camera body closer to opening for easier lift out. Little room on inside side for flash (?), not another lens. Lens could be pouch strapped on either side (2). Idea, put pouch for 70-200 one side and pouch for other lens opposite if you anticipate changing while walking.
The 70-200 has been problem with all bags but this one and the Flipside 300 which holds all lens and camera and.......then some.........if you want to carry all/HEAVY. Leave the Flipside 300 in car usually and carry camera in smaller bags with one or two lens out of five. This bag will carry the long one and any ONE other in side pouch with tripod in hand as walking stick, one leg extended until use. Snap mount always on long lens AND camera (short lens). Set up is fairly fast. **Even the long lens snap/ring mount on camera fits this bag, slightly snug. Leaving the ring mount on lens is nice time saver.
Please note: My 70-200 is the Canon f4 NOT the f2.8 therefore I do not think the f2.8 WITH LENS RING TRIPOD MOUNT would fit this case. The diameter is only OK without the ring mount. Suggest measuring first if you want to try.
Front outside pocket has nice expanding folds so it holds more if needed. I keep a shower cap for rain in winter, lens blower, lens brush, small stuff.
For ELEVEN INCHES inside depth this is the bag with one extra lens on outside option and storing the 70-200 or two outside and TOO MUCH weight again (?).........your choice.
