My 2.5 year old has already learned his uppercase letters using a puzzle and has really taken to this lowercase letter puzzle. This puzzle is a great hands-on activity for children who can't yet write their letters, but can become familiar with what the lowercase letters are supposed to look like. It's also great for being able to recognize the difference between the "b" and "d" letters, which are commonly mistaken.

The puzzle is made of textured rubber, which makes it easy for little hands to get a feel for the letters. The puzzle itself is thin and easily bendable. It measures 1'x1' square. It comes with a plastic container that the puzzle sits in and alphabetized illustrations on cardstock.

I only give it 4 stars because there are several small circle parts, which go inside several of the letters. For example, the middle of the "a" has a small circle hole that can be taken out. These little pieces are the same color as the background and can be removed with the letter. I removed these little extra pieces so they wouldn't be lost (or eaten), since they're not really part of the letter itself. The middle of the "e" especially, is a small sliver and is too small for a small child to be playing with. The puzzle I received has the reverse of the colors than the one pictured. It has a blue background with yellow letters. (See added pictures above)

This is a wonderful tool for little learners to learn their letters!

We love Lauri puzzles and this one is no exception. My son is 4 and autistic and has known his uppercase letters for awhile now. This puzzle is teaching him about lowercase as well. Also good for fine motor. The only slight downside is that there are some very small pieces to keep track of.

Welp, I have to edit my review. Everything said below is still true. However, my 26 month old has consistently loved playing with this puzzle for the last couple of weeks! It is his puzzle of choice. So, while I may have found the below items to be a "negative", my toddler disagrees. He actually enjoys the little pieces that I described in #3 below (I think he finds them challenging) and loves to just touch and feel the texture of the letters. Since the puzzle is for him, I will have to defer to his "expert opinion"! ;-)

-------------------------------------------------------------

This is overall just a "decent" puzzle to have in your collection of puzzles for your little ones. A couple of things to note:

1. The puzzle I received was actually a blue background with yellow letters. Not a big deal but different from the picture online.
2. The letters are completely flush with the board. It is hard for little ones to pick up the letters by themselves.
3. The "holes" in certain letters come out with the letter. For example, the letter "b" when pulled out leaves only the outline of the letter on the puzzle board. The little "hole/circle" that makes the letter comes out with the letter. I was not aware of this and would have preferred a wooden puzzle had I known (I believe the wooden puzzles have letters where the "hole" actually stays part of the board so that your child can actually see the letter as it should be...instead of just the outline).

Instead of dealing with returning it, I just glued those pieces down to the board as a quick fix. #1 and #2 above are not a huge deal but #3 is why I gave this puzzle two stars only. When a child is learning lower case letters, they should see them as they are...not just the outline. I would have purchased a different puzzle had I known.

Here's my problem with this puzzle....The middle of some of the letters come out, like the circles in the a,e,g,o,p,q. This frustrated my 3 year old. I was thinking that they were solid letters. As soon as I saw it I knew they were going to end up in someone's mouth. I was right! I bought this to entertain her while doing school with the older kids, so I'm pretty bummed that I spent money on this. I got a capital letter puzzle similar to this at Dollar Tree and I prefer that one.

I had purchased the upper case letters and loved those too. I decided to buy the lower case and am just as happy

This is the second of these I have bought because I love them so much. I had the first one for a few years and then the plastic backing broke while in storage. It didn't break due to a bad design, plastic just can't withstand being bent with a huge amount of force. My daughters have LOVED this puzzle and the company will send you replacement letters when you lose them for FREE! No shipping cost or anything. Who does that?! Awesome product.
