Book Description

A Golf Instruction Book by John Hoskison - former European PGA Tour and PGA Cup player

Think like a pro and you will shoot lower scores!

The art of saving shots on the golf course is a skill and like any skill it can be improved - no matter what your handicap!

Whatever department of the game you struggle with - wasted shots round the green, inaccurate iron shots, missed fairways or too many shots lost in the sand - the unique coaching advice, offered by former PGA European Tour Player, British PGA Professional Champion and Golf Monthly instructor John Hoskison, will improve your scores.

This practical coaching guide is not just about the long game and golf swing technique.  No matter how a golfer swings the club, they should be able to save shots by thinking clearly and choosing the right shot at the right time.  The book discusses how to stop making the same mistakes over and over again, and the tactics a pro uses to shoot lower scores.

Shooting lower scores requires control of the ball, and your mind. John's techniques, learned on the PGA circuit, will keep you relaxed and calm under pressure even when disaster strikes. Replace fear, anger, and doubt with John's step-by-step process for preparing for a round, practicing for maximum benefit and employing the tactics needed for shooting lower scores.

Learn how to:
  • Hit more fairways
  • Control irons shots
  • Chip close to the flag
  • Hole putts under pressure
  • Think like a pro
This is a must read for any golfer who wants to start winning matches and shoot their handicap regularly!

From the Author

After years of teaching and playing golf, I wrote this practical coaching guide to highlight the simple tactics a golfer can use to lower their scores.  It took me years competing on the European Tour to understand how important they are. Many of you know some of these things already, but to see them written down in black and white can help a golfer focus on what's required.  Try to incorporate the lessons one step at a time so they become ingrained habits.  This is particularly relevant when trying the safe tee shot.  Good luck and good golfing!

1.0 out of 5 stars No content - stay away... July 2, 2014

This "book" has less golf information in it than a typical golf magazine article. If you've read the "free preview" you have already read the book.

There are no drills, no insight, no anything, just rambling filler and pointers to "buy my other book" -- no thanks, joker.

There is nothing in here to even indicate that the author was actually a pro golfer. The advice boils down to "practice" and "be yourself" and "be diligent." Thanks for nothing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Golf, a mental case November 17, 2012

This is the second golf book I have read from this author and for me both the writing style and content strike a chord that has really helped my game. Everywhere you hear that golf is a simple game we spend hours trying to complicate. Well this book is about getting inside your head and focusing on keeping it simple. I guess that becomes easier once you know how and where to focus your attention. Whatever, the read has worked for me and I loved the easy writing style that is almost conversational, like you have a coach right beside you. It's not intense either and this uncomplicated read can be picked up and put down with ease. Once I read it through, I then found that opening it up anywhere and rereading bits to be most helpful in cementing the valuable insight to lowering ones scores. In two words, "Just buy it". (Sorry, I can't count my golf scores either)

I enjoyed this book on all aspects of golf. It goes thru putting, chipping, pitching and driver shot in detail.
Only missing element is some photos showing swing elements for each stroke type.

More About the Author

John Hoskison has been a successful professional golfer for thirty years. He has competed on the European Tour where he played with many of the top golfers in the world and twice he played against the USA in PGA Cup matches. In 1992 he won the European PGA National Professional Championships. John has regularly contributed to golf magazines and was on the PGA teaching panel at Golf Monthly.

As a player he is known as one of the straightest hitters in the game. 'When we were standing there trying to squeeze one down the fairway, John Hoskison would blast one down the middle as if no trouble existed.' Pete Oakley Seniors British Open Champion 2004.

But John has experienced both life's ups and downs. In 1994 he made a terrible mistake that had tragic and devastating consequences. After a golf match he broke a twenty year discipline and accepted a drink before driving home. On the short journey he hit and killed a cyclist.

After receiving the most incredible forgiveness, John wrote a deeply emotional book about his experience. His book, 'Inside - One Man's Experience of Prison', outlines the tragedy and portrays the harsh realities of prison. The book was highly regarded by judges, top prison officials and by the Chief Inspector of Prisons Lord Ramsbotham.

After many years trying to make amends, and with the incredible support of his colleagues, friends and family, John Hoskison now competes on the European PGA Seniors Tour. Much of John's time is spent talking to school children about the importance of making the right choices in life and not taking stupid, unnecessary, risks. He has now spoken at over 200 schools, to over 80,000 children. He is also an ambassador for the organisation No Offence
