5.0 out of 5 stars Still listening to it regularly, April 5, 2003
This review is from: Lowercase (Audio CD)
Mesh STL is one of those bands I just can't understand why isn't more popular. And after getting their album "Lowercase" early in 2002, I'm still popping it into my stereo regularly.

After hearing "Maybe Tomorrow" on the radio a few times, it piqued my interest enough to buy the album. Imagine my surprise to find there are several tracks even better.

Mesh STL's sound is kind of like the sound popular in the mid-90s when a lot of the radio bands were actually cool and didn't rely on gimmicks- The Verve Pipe, Days of the New, Soundgarden, Green Day, etc. Lead singer Scott Gertken has one of the best voices in rock. He has great range and doesn't sound whiny at all. By far the best track on the CD is "Leave", a power ballad that showcases the songwriting and singing talent magnificently. Tracks like "I Don't Know", "Believe Me" and "Little Star" are pure unadulterated rock.

You people can have your Limp Bizkits and your Creeds. I'll stick with the true great rock of Mesh STL.

5.0 out of 5 stars This album simply kicks butt., April 10, 2002

As everybody stated before me, if you like Puddle of Mudd (the most similiar band to compare them to) or the current Rock/Pop vibe, then you MUST get this CD. I was simply stunned by the excellent quality of this CD and I still constantly listen to Mesh after 3 months of owning it. Now who is better you ask? I would without a doubt put these guys above Puddle of Mudd and Nickelback. Now while both of their CDs are good, this WHOLE CD is great. Almost every song is worth listening to and I think they are of better quality than PoM. My favorite tracks are all except 2 and 11. And don't get me wrong 2 and 11 are still decent tracks, it's just that the others are all hit single quality. I am kinda surprised by the lack publicity these guys are getting (at least in my area). I never hear them on the radio and they SHOULD be on there. Just get the damn CD.

4.0 out of 5 stars Power Pop/Alt Rock, November 20, 2001
This review is from: Lowercase (Audio CD)
True this is a pop/alternative rock album... But the damn thing smokes! This cd has it all from the power ballads like "Believe" and "Little Star", to the full force jams of "Contagious" and their first single "Maybe Tomorrow". The guitar playing has a unique style between Rock and Matt bouncing killer riffs off of one another. If your a fan of Staind, Nickleback, Matchbox 20, Puddle of Mudd (who they are currently touring with), et al, then you will definately dig this quintet.
And unlike alot of bands out there the live shows these guys put on are even better than the cd. Don't wait for them to be obsessively played on the radio and MTV, buy it before all of your friends do!

5.0 out of 5 stars don't miss out on this gem, April 14, 2003
This review is from: Lowercase (Audio CD)
At first, when I heard "Maybe Tomorrow" on the radio a few times, I never really thought much, until I heard it on a countdown of 2001. Although they were about 90th on a list of 95 songs, I went ahead and found out who sang the song, and later bought the album along w/ another band called Default who also sound like them in a way.

Lowercase is a masterpiece. The song "Maybe Tomorrow" is the only single on the album, but that doesn't mean that it sucks. "Leave" and "Believe Me" are utterly mesmorizing. They literally send chills down your spine. All 3 provide enough reason to buy this album...but there's more.

"Little Star" isn't as hard, and gives signs that Mesh StL will be great in the future. "Rather Be Alone", "Sunday Comes Around" and "Gray" are songs that have heavy vocals and guitar riffs that are sweet to bump heads w/.

The rest of the songs, although not up to par w/ the rest of the songs mention, don't necessary get the label as "fillers" b/c they too are good songs.

Don't hesitate to buy this record. It may be hard to find nowadays b/c it really didn't make too many sells. Publicity was down, and they were basically tangled up in the whole new-wave nickelback genre. Lowercase will surely be a delight to your cd collection...guaranteed!
