Please do not but these sand paper letters. I bought them back in december for my son. I just brought them out to give to him for his 3rd birthday. The glue used to adhere the sand to the letters is completely toxic. There is an awful smell emiting from the cheap paper cards. I have them sitting next to me in a ziplock bag and I can still smell them. The toxic oder is giving me an instant headache and stomach nausea.

I have purchased these letters for myself and friends and none of us has ever smelled any odors at all or had any problems with them. They are suitable for teaching phonetic sounds at home and work well. They are smaller than Montessori sandpaper letters but also cost a third as much. Good value and a good material for starting to teach reading at home. In fact, these are one of the material options I list for parents in a new book on doing Montessori at home.
