I'm in total agreement w/ the 1st reviewer's comments that this book has lots of nice photos, but very little substance. The design & building info that is here suffers from being out of date, for a deck so constructed will NOT be in conformance w/ current safe building codes. Lots has changed recently in regard to materials, railings, bracing of posts, load ratings, deck-to-house's rim-joist attachment, etc., so keep searchimg for a better, more current source. Perhaps Loews has revised this book - not sure. In the meantime, this book should not be sold any longer. . .

I would not recommend buying this book if you want a reference book for building patios and decks. All it does is give you pictures. It doesn't give you enough to justify its purchase though.
