A few issues, but in generl, this is fantastic, April 8, 2004
This review is from: Lowfat Graphics: A Visual Journey Taking You to 96 Hot Motion Graphic Destinations [With DVD] (Hardcover)
I also had a similar problem with the DVD being glued into the book. I was able to remove it with a tiny amount of damage - the DVD image got a little scratched. No big deal, and the DVD works fine, but it *is* disappointing. My flip book came out of the package without any issues though. This really *is* an incredible experience, though, and I highly recommend it. If you love experimetnal format books, this is especially for you. The biggest issue I have with this is the navigation of the DVD; it is broken into foru sections: commercials, Idents, Music Videos and Animation. Navigation between individual pieces within each category doesnt seem to be possible, which is puzzling.

Excellent, October 4, 2004
This review is from: Lowfat Graphics: A Visual Journey Taking You to 96 Hot Motion Graphic Destinations [With DVD] (Hardcover)
The fact that the DVD contains Virgin Airlines "safety" video on it is alone worth the price of admission (or purchase, as the case may be...) Additionally, though, the book offers a very nice overview of motion graphics, complete with a separate flip book for added amusement. The graphics are inspiring for anyone looking to stimulate their creative juices and present something new and interesting to their client. Using the aforementioned Virgin Air safety video as an example, this is a brilliant example of what can be achieved in pushing the envelope while still making the relevant and important information easily understandable to the end consumer. Also, regarding the DVD, I had no problems removing it. Perhaps there are two versions of this book/set out there?

the cult of package design, May 16, 2004
This review is from: Lowfat Graphics: A Visual Journey Taking You to 96 Hot Motion Graphic Destinations [With DVD] (Hardcover)
okay, so the dvd was a *tad* hard to get out, but it did get out unharmed eventually. once you get past this 'obstacle' though, the rest of the packaging is really cool. the book present itself as a suitcase of sorts with all these 'stickers' stuck to the front. the cover is a hologram/lenticular graphic which means depending on which angle you view the cover from, you'll see different stickers. the flip book fits snugly into your 'suitcase' as a set of shirts and pants. while pretty novel, is still nevertheless fun to flip though and see segments of the various animations contained on the dvd (except for a McFetridge one which wasn't - baaad!). the dvd is mastered a bit weirdly though. you can't actually navgiate through all the items individually - only by sections which was mildly annoying. the content however is pretty consistent (even though i wish it was in PAL instead of bleedy/fuzzy NTSC - sorry NTSC people!) which is more than i can say for another motion graphics/animation book i got at the same time (flips animation 7) the book itself is great, even if it was a bit hard to read when stuck to the heavy cover. if you're easy amused though, you be prepared to forgive these little 'sins' and just enjoy a all round pretty solid book & dvd!
