1.0 out of 5 stars Very Disappointing, August 24, 2009

This review is from: Lowrance Endura Sierra 000-0125-40 2.7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
This is an incredibly disappointing GPS. From the pre-release hype by Lowrance I expected a GPS that would match or exceed the top of the line handhelds from Garmin and Delorme. What was delivered was the most basic GPS, no auto-routing even though it ships with Navteq street maps, you cannot perform a find of points of interest except from your current positon on the GPS. You are limited to 30 track logs, but you have virtually not control over when and how they are displayed. Track logs are recorded using GMT dates and time. The highly acclaimed high definition super topo maps form Accuterra look like the topo maps you purchased from Garmin and other GPS maufacturers 10 years ago. The screen is virtually unreadable in indirect sunlight, even with backlighting turned up to the maximum. I can think of at least a half a dozen better handheld GPS's than this unit and they almost all cost less money. Until the price of this GPS drops below $300 and they get the bugs fixed I would look elsewhere for a GPS. This is one of the most overpriced under featured GPS's I've ever purchased.

Does not support MGRS, and Maps are weak at best. Do not waste your money on this machine.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not Happy With My Lowrance Endura, September 26, 2011
This review is from: Lowrance Endura Sierra 000-0125-40 2.7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
I just picked up an Endura Sierra yesterday at REI.

Upon removing the unit for inspection, I was happy with the overall look and feel of the unit. I checked the firmware version (1.4) and found a recent update available online (1.5) that was full of huge improvements in the usability and function of the unit!

I attempted to perform the update several times exactly as directed, and each time the unit gave an error "Firmware 1.5 already installed, please reboot unit".

Unfortunately, it is still running 1.4, and will not accept the 1.5 update.

I called Lowrance this morning and had a 20 minute conversation about the issue. The best Lowrance will do, for a brand new unit I have not owned 24 hours yet, is allow me to pay to have it shipped to them and they will decide what to do with it once they have inspected it.

I found navigating their website and finding information is frustrating as nothing is well placed or thought out. I am less than pleased that a brand new unit is costing me more money less than 24 hours after purchase.

Thus far, I am very unhappy with Lowrance customer service, should you even want to call it that.

I have a new Garmin Montana on the way to accompany my other GPSr units, and believe I will just stick with Garmin in the future.

I will also be recommending others avoid Lowrance GPSr units.

1.0 out of 5 stars This is not a review, June 21, 2011

Many of the reviews for this gps device seem to be about a flotation device instead. This probably needs to be fixed. Please delete this review when it's done.

1.0 out of 5 stars Lowrance Endura Sierra, March 31, 2011
This review is from: Lowrance Endura Sierra 000-0125-40 2.7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
At $450 MSRP this unit is a joke. I have had mine for about 5 months, I have had to send it back two times due to major problems. This unit requires downloads as soon as you buy it. If you purchase mapping software, such as Navoinics, you can view the maps but your waypoints do not show up on the map. I have been a Lowrance user for 20+ years, but this unit is a joke.Lowrance Endura Sierra 000-0125-40 2.7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator

1.0 out of 5 stars Hurry Up Lowrance, August 15, 2009
This review is from: Lowrance Endura Sierra 000-0125-40 2.7-Inch Portable GPS Navigator (Electronics)
Ordered July 7th received it August 11th

No Accesories Yet Months out
Turn by turn not available yet (will cost 100)
you have to take the memory card out to add waypoints manually

I exported waypoints from Vantage point and it crashed the unit.

It looks like it will be amazing one day

There is no perfect handheld
