4.0 out of 5 stars Lowrider Weekend Rocks!
Sonny Gutierrez owes a lot of money to an underworld figure and hopes to pay his debt by organizing a lowrider car show and concert in San Quilmas (San Antonio, Tex.). Key to the show's success is an appearance by actor Danny De La Paz. When Danny's contract gets lost, Sonny relies on his cousin "Baby" Marin and a mysterious "Primo" (who is on a...

1.0 out of 5 stars !Sinverguenza!
This had a threadbare storyline; the characters make stupid decisions; and this film was just a waste of time. One actor who played a simple role in "American Me" is put upon a pedestal and worshipped like he were Ruben Blades, Benicio del Toro, or some other major LatinO actor. I loved the Southwest unity here where the script shows Cali, Arizona, and Texas. There are...

Sonny Gutierrez owes a lot of money to an underworld figure and hopes to pay his debt by organizing a lowrider car show and concert in San Quilmas (San Antonio, Tex.). Key to the show's success is an appearance by actor Danny De La Paz. When Danny's contract gets lost, Sonny relies on his cousin "Baby" Marin and a mysterious "Primo" (who is on a mission to restore Davy Crockett's ghost to the Alamo) to ensure that Danny will attend the car show instead of an engagement in Japan. Bikini clad beauties, extremely cool cars, Tejano bands, car thieves, Japanese ninjas and ghosts from the Alamo converge on the lowrider car show in the film's exciting conclusion. Guest appearance by Shorty and the Corvettes is a special treat. Anyone who loves lowrider cars or San Antonio will enjoy this fun, intelligent and creative look into the lowrider culture. Great performances by Jesse Borrego, Arturo "Frost" Molina, Domingo "Mingo" Chavez, Danny de la Paz and Efrain Gutierrez.

There are many tomboyish girls and butch women here. Maybe androgyny is celebrated or understood in "cholo" culture, but this dynamic stands out and no character ever discusses it. Maybe I had a defective copy, but many actors' voices could not be heard. Really, you'd heard background music, one person talking, and another person's lips just moving. If I didn't have the subtitles on I would have had no idea what they were saying. Maybe this is the result of low-budget films where they can't reshoot when a microphone isn't working. Do not waste two hours of your life seeing this. This could be the worst "ese" film ever made.
