5.0 out of 5 stars A Scholarly Tribute, September 27, 2000
This review is from: Loyal Letters: Studies on Mediaeval Alliterative Poetry & Prose (Mediaevalia Groningana) (Paperback)
This collection of essays about a range early to late medieval English literature focusses upon some of the lesser known, yet still important pieces of prose and poetry in the language. From AElfric to Langland, these scholarly analyses remain eminently readable, even by a non-academic with a serious interest in medieval literature. Prominent scholars such as T.Turville-Petre and M. Twomey bring fresh insights to ancient texts. As a body of work, it is a fitting tribute to the late G.H.V. Bunt, editor of one of the essays' topic texts, "William of Palerne," a Middle English alliterative poem about the adventures of a hero and his protector, a werewolf.
