Don't expect to learn Lua from this
This is just a printed version of the website reference manual. Do not expect to learn Lua from this book. It is good for what it is.

Just a printed version of the reference manual
Exactly what the other reviewer said. It describes the syntax of Lua but doesn't tell you how to use Lua to do what you want it to do. It's a good reference but a reference if you want to look up something but that's not what I was hoping for.

Essential LUA reference,

This is a short succinct reference manual written in a clear and concise manner. It tells you everything you really need to know and not much more. There are short examples of syntax to help explain the concepts. If you need to simply write programs in LUA, then this is your choice. If you need to go deeper (e.g. embed LUA in your own application) then I recommend you get "Programming in LUA".

This is a fantastic reference book for the Lua programming language, and I keep it on my desk whenever I'm working in Lua. Please note that this is not a "learn Lua" type of book, it's just a reference manual. If you want to learn Lua then check out Programming in Lua, Second Edition
