I bought this hoping for some footage of Joe Ely. What I got was an incredible documentary about Lubbock asking why so many good musicians come out of that area. Any fan of Joe Ely or the Flatlanders should own this. It has generous new and vintage footage of them. But it also gives you a real feel for what it was like to live there, people's love/hate relationship with the area, and how it shaped their lives. As Butch Hancock's dad said, "It's a nice place to live, but you wouldn't want to visit there."

This is a great DVD! If you like the Flatlanders, you gotta have this. Lubbock is a unique city, with an influence on music that is greater than one would think. I got it thinking there would be a lot about Buddy Holly, but it mostly centers around Joe Ely and the Flatlanders.

It's an interesting foray into West Texas music.

Highly recommended!

I'm going to get some CD's after watching this!

Loved it. Brought back good memories of college years in Lubbock. We lived at the Cotton Club on weekends. Watched it with a group of old friends from Lubbock days. Lots of laughter.
