Product Description

Amazon.com Review
His parents may have named the dog Indiana, but for millions of fans there's no better name associated with adventure than the moniker Dr. Jones took for himself. For Indy fans, the follow-up to a 1992 Indiana Jones adventure game has been a long wait, but trust us--it was worth it. A solid 3-D third-person role-playing game, Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine was built on LucasArts' own Jedi Knight engine, putting an entirely new spin on the series formula.

While his lady friends throughout the years may have considered Indiana himself "infernal," the title actually refers to a Babylonian device that has fallen into the wrong hands. In the past Indy took on monstrous Nazi officers; now he's working with the CIA to capture the machine before it falls into the hands of Soviet agents. This fight takes players through scores of wonderfully rendered scenes, both underground and aboveground.

There are some drawbacks, of course (and we're not talking about its similarity to a certain other tomb-raiding game). The primary fault is that it's single-player only, so don't plan any KGB-versus-Dr. Jones death matches. But the famous Indy wit and attitude goes a long way towards making up for that flaw. Also, Infernal Machine is easy to jump into and simple to play--unlike other games that require memorizing key assignments before even beginning.

A much-anticipated title, Infernal Machine--like the globetrotting, dust-covered, nick-of-time treasure hunter himself--delivers the goods.

5.0 out of 5 stars Adventure Gaming at it's Best, November 24, 1999
By jim werner (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine is simply a great adventure game. The levels are huge, the puzzles tough and the atmosphere is pure Indiana Jones. Set post WWII, you are in a race against the Russians to find the four pieces of the Infernal Machine-a relic from the ancient tower of Babel. Your quest takes you all over the world including Utah, Egypt and the Phillipines. Along the way you'll encounter sharks, spiders, commies and of course-SNAKES! The game relies more on puzzle solving and exploring than shot-em up battles, and most of the puzzles are excellent (if not frustrating)! All-in-all, the game gets the whole Indy feel down to a tee-especially when the familiar theme accompanies a cool use of the bull whip. Any fan of the movies should already have this game and those who love adventure games with great level design and well thought out puzzles should pick it up this instant.

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucas Arts is a Master Game Maker!, November 29, 1999
I have always been an avid fan of Lucas Arts. Having played Monkey Island and Grim Fandango, now comes his masterpiece, Indiana Jones. If you love role-playing, strategic games, this one is for you. A technology note, you must have a 3D graphics card in order to play and at least 32mbRam. There are 6 levels of game play and not your run of the mill shoot em up game. There are 17 chapters to the storyline which you must travel and conquer through. Pure Indy Action!

5.0 out of 5 stars Step aside Lara, November 27, 1999
By Jeff (Kansas City, MO) - See all my reviews
Having never played a Tomb Raider adventure may have enhanced my utter enjoyment for this wonderful game from LucasArts. Many complaints I've heard is that its too similar to Tomb Raider. Even if it is...SO WHAT! Have fun with it. Its not often that a great computer game with minimal bugs and loads of gameplay enters your life. The level design in this game is some of the best I have ever seen and the puzzles while challenging are not so frustrating you'll wanna shut off your computer (well okay I did two times already and I'm only on level 6). The one complaint I have with the game is combat and the sometimes lack of A.I. You can shoot a guard and if you miss, he'll keep walking like he didn't hear the gun. My advice is to charge them while firing. While this complaint would of been larger if this were an action game, the fact is, its not. Its Indiana Jones and majority of your time you'll be solving puzzles and finding treasures. Sometimes I found it annoying when the game designers just threw in more villains to shoot at because it distracted me while I was exploring. On to the finer points: Did I mention that the game is HUGE! Lucas thankfully threw in a hint mode where when viewing the map an "X" will be displayed to point you where you need to go next. On some levels I needed it. So while it may not win any awards for originality, its one of those rare games that does not leave my computer even when I have stacks of other games waiting to be played. Quit reading this review and buy it! You'll thank me.
