Review

"In one of the most compelling vampire books I've read in a while, Reynolds blends an excellent mix of paranormal elements, suspense and combustible attraction between Lucas and Kathryn."

I have never read a book by D B Reynolds that I did not love and this is another one to add to that list! I read it in one night and I will be re-reading it again! Lucas is the Vampire Lord of the plaines states at war with a neigboring Lord. Throw in one beautiful strong willed FBI Agent and it throws him off balance! I have to say that I am biased since I adore her work but I am always honest in my reviews and I would without a doubt recomend this book to anyone who loves a good love story with action and adventure thrown in! Enjoy!

This series is one of my all time favorites and Lucas did not disappoint. He was charismatic and sexy. For some reason I really like Nicholas.........not sure why.....he's my favorite lieutenant next to Duncan, of course. I read this one so fast it will seem like FOREVER waiting on the next one. If you haven't read this series start at the beginning and you will not be sorry. You can reread these books and enjoy them each time.

My favorite is Raphael; however, I think Lucas just tied it :).

Lucas seems much more human, I love the combination of laid back Vampire. When he is Vampire, he is soooo very awesome kick butt Vampire. He is about perfect.

Kathryn felt a little bit like Cyn if she had gone to the FBI, but for some reason she did not seem as competent. Maybe b/c unlike Cyn she had not dealt with vampires before, but her whole I can kick butt and not realize how physically outclassed she was by the vampires was a little bit of an eye roll, and why I went 4 stars instead of 5. I did like here dedication to her brother and the struggle she had with her feelings for Lucas. I also like that in spite of the fact that he was a lot stronger she would not kowtow to him.

If this were based only on Lucas it would be a 6. I hope to see more of them in the future. I am really looking forward to the next book. If you are new to the series, you could start with this one and be ok. But for sure go and read Raphael (Vampires in America) it was the best imho.

Lucas Donlon is the Lord Vampire over a considerable territory that includes South Dakota. He's having some problems with a pain in the ass vampire who's the Lord over an area that includes Chicago. Frankly, he's tired of dealing with the problem and now he's on a war path to fix it. The problem? FBI SpecialAgent Kathryn Hunter, who is bugging him about her missing brother. The only thing that makes her meddlesome nature tolerable is the fact that she's delicious looking in every way that counts, and he wants to bite her in every place that counts. What he doesn't need? Her take charge attitude getting herself in trouble while he's currently at war with the pain in the ass from Chicago. What he doesn't see coming? Falling for the stubborn agent who thinks the only things in her life that are important are her brother Daniel and her job at the FBI in Quantico, Virginia.

Kathryn Hunter is on a mission to find her missing younger brother Daniel, who is a famous photographer. What she doesn't need is a smooth talking vampire who's determined to stop her at every turn from pursuing the trail to find her brother. Even if he is just trying to help and keep her alive. What she really doesn't need? A hot fling with that same vampire Lord, but she does it anyways. What she doesn't expect? To start having feelings for Lucas. Feelings that she can't pursue because her life is back at Quantico after she finds her brother, not in South Dakota.

Let me tell you readers, I did not expect to like this book as much as I did. It's a well written story that has a twist in the end that I didn't see coming. I love it when authors catch me off guard! (You go D.B. Reynolds!

I really love DB Reynolds Vampires in America Series. It makes me think of the Godfather--only with vampires. It's a fantastic series and DB Reynolds always does great characters with a very strong hero and heroine. Like Cyn, Kathryn is independent and can hold her own--and even help--the vampires. I was a little annoyed with Kathryn's inability to admit her feelings for Lucas, but she came around in the end. Lucas on the other hand is a very Alpha, totally swoon worthy hero and I don't have a single complaint. I did like Raphael better, but I think it's just because I was introduced to Raphael first so I have a soft spot for him.

Why did I rate this book with 4 stars instead of 5? I found the end of the story just wrapped up way to neat for my liking. The way the story concluded made me feel like there were two separate storylines going and the author only remembered at the last second that she left one unfinished, so she quickly resolved that situation. It felt separate from everything else that had been going on. Other than that this was a fantastic installment to the series.
