This large edition, which comes in a protective cardboard case, is the definitive collection of Lucien Freud's life in painting. This amazing painter ranks up there with the Old Masters in their ability to bring painted flesh alive. Its truly amazing what he has accomplished in a century that turned its back on representational images. I saw the sole Freud painting hanging in the Art Institute of Chicago yesterday, and it puts the other nearby contemporary works to shame.
