The sound and picture quality are terrible! Looks and sounds like an amatuer video. It is a real shame that such a great man is portrayed in an awful DVD. Don't buy this DVD. It is a waste of money.

Maestro Pavarotti live performance, accompanied with piano,

I have not "seen" this as a DVD. I have, however, heard the audio recording. On one song, he either turns away from the mike or a mike went out, but it lends a little authenticity and reminds us that live performances are always... interesting.Even with it's one technical glitch, it's still worth having and enjoying. Pavarotti is in fine form. And take it for what's it's worth to you, but I sang opera and am a musician, so I have an educated ear and can discern the subtleties that zoom by. It's worth it to have this as part of one's collection. Recital work is a completely different "animal" than recording studios or singing with orchestras, chorus, etc. He must sing "out" into the audience (no recording studio to help) even during pianisimo, which is a "trick" the great singers know how to do. Remember, he and his accompanist are "naked" before the world. Recital singing is the toughest and most intimate thing one can do. And the riskiest. No where to run, no where to hide... just forge ahead. Buy it. Listen to a master in recital. |
