The music industry sometimes sees a glut of handsome young dudes with honey-coated voices and acoustic guitars making sensitive and savvy pop-folk, but there's always room for another when they're as talented as this guy. The Chicago-based singer-songwriter Carey Ott is releasing his debut with
Lucid Dream, but one listen and it's clear that he's been honing his craft for years (both solo and with his alt-rock band Torben Floor). Ott makes pleasantly middle-of-the-road bedroom indie-pop songs that doesnt pretend to be anything other than that, and are solid enough to make the transition to radio, should the stars align properly. Tracks like "Mother Madam," "Am I Just One," and "Daylight" combine a strong melodic sense with a knack for subtle details. A few of the songs sound too similar to one another, but that's nothing that experience and perhaps a different producer wouldn't fix. If Damien Rice and Neil Finn are your favorite artists, you'll adore Carey Ott.

Carey Ott has had the success in a few short months that most artists hope for in their entire careers. Two music placements in the second season of ABC's "Grey's Anatomy", another slot in Fox's new show "Kyle XY", the #1 most downloaded slot at eMusic.com, and an advertising/cross promotion with Sony and Coors. This album serves as the perfect introduction to an artist who continues to draw comparisons to Radiohead, Death Cab For Cutie, Coldplay, and Oasis.
