Watch out DMB here comes FJB!,

WOW. That about sums it up. If the Freddy Jones Band gets a break, then they will be HUGE. If you like Dave Matthews, Guster, or Blue Traveler then FJB is right up your ally.

The Legend of Freddy lives on,
By Robby V (Pittsburgh, PA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lucid (Audio CD)
If you are unfamiliar with FJB, get this album, it is quintessential. I know many will maintain that Waiting For the Night is the best, but I'm not looking for roots, I'm looking for creativity and evolution in a band. It is a modern tragedy that the Freddy Jones Band broke apart, but their legend will live on in albums that bring you back to heart of music.

Great from start to finish,

This was my first taste of FJB, and there is no other CD of the several hundred we own that I truly love from start to finish - there is not one song that I ever skip over when I listen to it. The listening gets better over time as the subtle complexities of the vocals and the guitars start to sink in. It came as a refreshing surprise when I first heard it - the guys have a unique and original sound, which is why we probably never hear them on the radio. While Lucid has a more polished and produced feel to it than North Avenue Wake Up Call, it still did not stike me as "commercial" in the least. It's a great companion on a long road trip.

Freddy Jones Band offers more of a rock feel on this album than their self-titled debut and their career-defining Waiting For the Night. Still in their prime, Lucid was a solid album, in many ways more lush and mature than any other of their albums. Opening track Wonder is the clear standout on the album, and many of the earlier tracks became standard fare on the groups live tours, even today as the group tries to resurrect itself. Later tracks a good deep-cut listening for the hard-core FJB fan. As is usual with the band's albums, while Rob Bonacorsi is hardly the star of the band, he is consistently the tasteful guitarist that gives FJB a special tone. While the band never topped Waiting for the Night, Lucid is a solid album by any right and worthy of anyone's collection.

Incredible,

A mix of blues, southern guitar rock, country, industrial hair rock, and some California surfer rock bring together the Freddy Jones Band. Not since Pink Floyd has a group been this relaxing to listen too. Wonder has all the elements of an undefinable song, except it can be classified as rock n' roll. Songs like Mystic Buzz keep a distant Pink Floyd feel in the music, but also add in a bit of Pearl Jam that is unmistakeable. Songs like She Said mix Brooks & Dunn, Robert Johnson, and Nirvana into a beautiful blend. The Freddy Jones Band is one of the most well adjusted bands to come along in years, a true mix of American culture in the 90s. This is one of the best CDs if you want to capture a feel of America today, the angst of the increasingly large single population, the dreams of a culture, the psychadelic rhythms, the country sidenotes, the pressing guitar work. The list goes on and on. Then there's better Tomorrow which embraces and encases all of these elements. This is the CD of the decade!

One of the best CDs of the last three years.,

Lucid presents more of the same from the FJB, and in their case, this is a great thing! It has been a while since a CD as a whole has captivated me the way this CD has. Lucid is a treat from beginning to end. Buy this CD now. You won't regret it.

They have better Albums, but this one is still strong,

The Freddy Jones 4th album is still strong and powerful, driving them to be one of the best bands of the 1990's. Their music is soothing and intoxicating. Based in Chicago, the band beautifully blends rock with a hint of country. This album is driven by songs like Wonder, She Said and Walk as one. Unfortunately, this album produces one of the worst FJB songs I know: Burning By. Cut that song off the album and i would increase my rating to a 9. Overall, I was impressed with the album and simply happy to have more FJB songs to play.

Rehashed Freddy Jones Band,
By John Rose (Atlanta, GA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lucid (Audio CD)
Although a decent albums, its plagued with a few songs that are barely worth listening to. Of the seven or so remaining tracks that are good, only about three of them are great, original tracks. The rest sound too much like old rifts and beats recycled with new lyrics. Not a bad album altogether, but I wouldn't buy this album unless you're already an FJB fan, and feel like you need more. |
