Editorial Reviews

After a journeyman career as a pop arranger and songwriter, Mort Garson found his creative and philosophical peak at the helm of a Moog synthesizer. Beyond his previous pursuits of synthi-brick roads, zodiacs and other hair-raising feats, stands this dual-epic of electro-occultism. Fashioned from a sincere interest in the esoteric and a canny knack for trend precognition, Black Mass (performed by 'Lucifer') and The Unexplained (by 'Ataraxia') are classics of the miniscule genre of Electro-plated Arcana, and found their natural home in a multitude of student digs worldwide. Both albums are stunningly virtuosic in their composition, execution and invocation and are now available on this 24 track compilation. Reissued for the very first time from the original mastertapes with exclusive liner notes, unpublished photos/memorabilia and rare extra tracks.

Most Helpful Customer Reviews

5 of 5 people found the following review helpful By Acid Mage on September 2, 2012
I purchased Black Mass, on a 33 LP, in 1972. My generation was primarily influenced by drugs, sex, magic, and Rock and Roll to various degrees. My friend, the endless skeptic, and I were arguing about ESP and magic when we noticed how late it was. I suggested that he crash at my place rather than crashing on I 94. He agreed. I set him up with pillows and blankets for the couch. I set him up alright. After he fell asleep I placed Black Mass on the turntable and adjusted the volumn down to the bare minimum. The record would play the entire side then reset itself and play it again and again. I went to my bed and settled down for a relaxing slumber. Twice during the night, I was awakened by the scream's of my friend. I must assume that the music has a subliminal message embedded in it or maybe it was "Magic". He never caught on to what I had done and we never spoke much about "Magic" after that. If you want to raise a little hell, I suggest you buy it...
