About the Author

M.T. Murphy prefers his vampires evil, his werewolves feral, his facial hair excessive, and thinks that shades of gray are far more interesting than black and white. He lives in a den deep in the woods of Alabama with his beautiful and patient wife, their two ridiculously adorable children, and a were-Schnauzer named Logan.

Well done Mr. Murphy, hats off to you and your wonderfully written characters, cannot wait to read more of this world as told through your stories.

I discovered this author and part of the story in the collection of books in "Kiss me, Kill me." This was probably the most intense villain book I've ever read. I mean, they were so good at being bad. But it was a great fast read, and I was disappointed because I wanted the story to go on. I'm really hoping this is the beginning of a series. I want more!

This is one of those books that defy all you've ever read about vampire/werewolves. No glitter, no damsel in distress, no whining...Fabulous! Now, I realize that the book is told from the perspective of the "bad guys": Lucifera and her Wolf, but underneath it all, it's still a love story.

I am so glad I stumbled upon M.T. Murphy. I'll be honest, I probably wouldn't have picked up this book due to the cover, so for those hesitant, don't let it fool you. (Don't get me wrong, the cover is great, but I wouldn't have associated it with what the actual book was about/style of writing). This was a beautifully written book and I can't wait until the sequel comes out.

To say that I know the character Lucifera Romana would be an understatement. However all I thought I knew about her and her beloved, albeit shaggy, wolf means precisely nothing now after having read Lucifera's Pet, the debut novel by M.T. Murphy. I will say that I went into it with the mindset of already having love and affection for two of the main characters of the book, but even that love and affection has bloomed into something more.

I have heard several people recently who have said good horror has been lost in a world of pop-fiction. The horror characters we once grew up on are now a thing of the past. Not in this world. Unlike most books in the genre that I've read, there is no sugar-coating here not unless your brand of sugar happens to be blood.

This story unfolds giving you glimpse at the main characters in a clever way that I have rarely seen done successfully, told through each of their eyes in a way that makes you feel the story as it unfolds. Makes you feel their emotions, or in some cases, their lack thereof. A story that travels through the lives of two people from opposite worlds pulled together by a love and understanding of wanting their torture painful, their fights more bloody, and all the while you will be rooting for the good guys, even if they are by most standards, the bad guys.

All I can say is this was well worth the read, even for someone like me who it takes a lot to get engrossed in a story, I couldn't put it down. Well done Mr. Murphy, hats off to you and your wonderfully written characters, cannot wait to read more of this world as told through your stories.

3.5 stars, really.

my first foray into indie/self publishing was a pretty good one. if you're annoyed by unpolished things like typos or formatting boo-boos, fear not, this is very well put together.

technical stuff aside, the story is also good. on the continuum of supernatural love stories, I prefer more substance and less cheap smut, and this one certainly delivers. flashbacks of a centuries-old vampire's life as a roman trader is interspersed with the life of her future werewolf partner; these backstories actually take up more of the narrative than the here-and-now cat & mouse game between two master vampires. refreshingly, the monsters are villains rather than just whiny tormented souls, and the absence of angst alone makes it worth it.

aside from some stereotypical grandstanding by the big baddie and some head-scratching dialogue anachronisms in the werewolf's 1700s childhood, worth checking out.

I was looking around for some vampire or werewolf books and I stumbled onto a book that had both. I love the way the main characters are portrayed. I especially loved the back story of Mickey. He is just so cool! I also love Lucifera because she is so powerful and sexy. I could not put this book down at all! Loved it! I definitely recommend this book!

Lucifera's Pet is an awesome read. Because of the lack of reviews I almost passed it up. That would have been an appalling mistake. This book is completely original and creative. Each character is told in first person so there are alternating chapters featuring a different character. I LOVED the Wolf. He was crazy, deranged, sarcastic, funny and he scared the crap out of everyone. To see him through the eyes of different characters was fantastic. The author's voice is great. I was enthralled; I laughed, smiled and became totally engrossed in the story.

I was so attached to the beginning chapters and the inevitable show down between Lucifera, her nemesis and the role the Wolf would play in that show down, that when the author switched gears and went back in time, so that we could understand how the two main characters came to be, I was disappointed. I just wanted to get back to the present time. It wasn't that the middle was bad or boring. Not at all. But the beginning was so good and the author so talented in capturing my attention that I wanted to know the resolution to the things set in motion at the start of the novel.

This author is so entertaining that I can't wait to read more from him. This is a book that is definitely worth reading. I don't even remember a single spelling or grammatical error. If there were any they were ignored in the face of such wonderful storytelling. Absolutely great!

More About the Author

I write stuff. Weird stuff. Stuff about werewolves, vampires, zombies, gunslingers, and feral gerbils. Sometimes I let other people read that stuff. Occasionally, that stuff gets published.

Also, I tend to overuse the word "stuff."

I write about vampires and werewolves of the not so warm and fuzzy variety. More often than not they are villains who are forced to deal with other villains who may or may not be nastier than themselves. Sex, fighting, blood, and fun is had by all.
