4.0 out of 5 stars an interesting quick read
Lucifer's Flood is book one in a planned trilogy. This book is told as a narrative from a demon that reports to Lucifer/Satan. It covers all of the events from Creation to the birth of Moses and how much that it enraged Satan. It also clarifies most of the misconceptions that we have about Adam & Eve and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the events leading up...

1.0 out of 5 stars Missed Opportunity
I feel like this book was just a great opportunity missed out. I picked it up expecting something completely different. What I got was a goofy demon, a God that seemed to do things out of spite to Satan, and overall just bad characterizations.

The storyline was okay, but I mean really it was just a retelling of the Bible in some cases.

It also clarifies most of the misconceptions that we have about Adam & Eve and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, and the events leading up to the destruction of Sodom and Gomorrah. It also covers small things such as just how much God really loves fish, and the rules he bends to protect them.

1.0 out of 5 stars Missed Opportunity, July 22, 2009

This review is from: Lucifer's Flood (Reluctant Demon Diaries) (Paperback)
I feel like this book was just a great opportunity missed out. I picked it up expecting something completely different. What I got was a goofy demon, a God that seemed to do things out of spite to Satan, and overall just bad characterizations.

The storyline was okay, but I mean really it was just a retelling of the Bible in some cases.

I understand that some demons can be pitiful and that currently they are something viewed pathetically and sympathetically. I have problems with that as a whole, but it was not the reason I disliked this book.

What I didn't like about this book was how short it felt. The characters fell short, the plot fell short, even the God fell short. If you expected something epic out of this book, you do not get it. There is not action either or any conflict except the demon feeling that God is unfair. If you have at one point read any of Paradise Lost, I would recommend skipping over this book in its entirety.

Maybe I am just a bit jaded, but I do not like reading whiny POVs. One of the most feared beings in existence being whiny just ups that annoyance so much more

5.0 out of 5 stars INTERESTING, June 6, 2008
This review is from: Lucifer's Flood (Reluctant Demon Diaries) (Paperback)
This book is interesting in that it discusses and breaches many topics that the church doesn't analyze further. It is good in that it shows a perspective that many of us wouldn't have otherwise thought about. The thought of a demon who is sad that it had been involved in the rebellion is interesting. She tells a fascinating story from the rebellion to the gardern filled with interesting theories including different dimensions.

Lucifer's Flood is a mystical mystery wrapped in spiritual authenticity. Although the book is billed as fantasy, the characters are "fleshed out" as very real people in both believable and yet supernatural life situations. From the courts of heaven to the middle east and from the major capitals of the world to the lives of ordinary people, the reader is taken on an exhilarating wild ride of provocative questions and startling answers. Don't miss it. I highly recommend this book.

5.0 out of 5 stars Read this book!, August 5, 2008
This review is from: Lucifer's Flood (Reluctant Demon Diaries) (Paperback)
This is seriously the best book I've read this summer. And I average about 6 a week, and this one stands above them all. It's such a wonderful, creative and well written story, and the author has such insight! I was thrilled to learn that there will be two more books in this series. I'd love to know how the author came up with the idea. So if you were wondering whether or not you should read this book, I'd say absolutely.

5.0 out of 5 stars If you like not being able to put a book down, this one is for you, August 3, 2008
This review is from: Lucifer's Flood (Reluctant Demon Diaries) (Paperback)
My sister lent me this book at the beach, and no one saw me for the rest of the day (unless you count simply seeing the top of my head over this book). The author wrote the story of rebellion, creation and humanity up to Moses in this page turner. The little bit of the book that deals with getting the scrolls is a bit hokey, but the story itself is well written. The author has put in not only a lot of humor but also a lot of truth into these pages. The fallen angel who is narrating the scrolls did not choose sides, which led to his fall. He doesn't want us to think he is whimpy as he chews his tail during stressful moments of human history. I am recommending this book for our little church book club. I think it will give everyone who reads it not only some laugh out loud moments, but also insight by looking at these well known events from a very different perspective. I can't wait for the next installment.

3.0 out of 5 stars Easy and fun. But.........., June 25, 2011

Just finished the book. I have to admit a enjoyed it despite my earlier gripe about the feminist stance it took around Eve. Later the author made some interesting points about women and their emotional states. The book covered from the War/Rebellion in Heaven until Moses was found in the Nile river. It was very easy to understand and quite fun. The author even attempts to instruct the reader about prayer and how it should be done. I really enjoyed those parts. (Ironically though this is conveyed to the reader through a Demon)
But I must say that even though I enjoyed this book I will not being reading any sequels to it. I didn't like the authors choice of crafting the demons to be human like. What I mean by this is the way they think, their sarcasm, humor, and body movements. It was all way too human. Specifically modern western human at that. I also didn't like how she described the demons to have the traditional gothic appearance of scales, hooves, tails etc. For me that took a lot from the story. I really wanted a deeper description on why Lucifer rebelled. In this telling, Lucifer almost out of the blue accuses God, instantly convinces 1/3 of heaven's host ( from scratch mind you) to rebel, fights the loyal Angels and gets thrown out of Heaven. To me all of that appeared to happen within 2 to 5 minutes. But time didnt exsist for them at that point, so anyway.

Ok, Enough negativity from me . And for you white knight defender types out there, Yes I know this his her book she she can write it how she wants. Yes I know she said she chose to humanize the demons, No I couldn't do a better job. Yes I know my opinion is insignificant and that I didn't have to read it but too late, I already did. So...

All that being said, I think this was a good easy to read story. And I would recommend it for a young reader or one who has never read the " fall from grace" tale.

1.0 out of 5 stars Home run in theory, strike out in practice, June 18, 2010

This novel had such potential and its inability to live to that potential in any way was very disappointing. The author's primary issue is that she seemingly couldn't decide whether she was writing a Christopher Moore type farce or a serious exploration of alternative Christian history. The opening of the novel was completely different in tone from any of the following content, which bounced jarringly between farcical and serious. The narrating character was likely intended to be humorous but instead read as gratingly whiny. I wasn't invested in any of the characters or the little plot that existed and I had to force myself to finish the novel. I had high hopes for this author and this series and was greatly disappointed.

Kindle edition: This book is in Topaz format and is displayed in a serif font that is approximately a size larger than the standard Kindle font. It's clear, easy to read, and the text can be left or full justified. The book has clean chapter breaks and uses dropped caps as well as a small decorative graphic to indicate chapter and section breaks, respectively. The book is otherwise well formatted and was free of any noticeable typographical errors.

4.0 out of 5 stars A light, fun take on Biblical Fiction., February 12, 2010

Lucifer's Flood is not a serious book of Biblical philosophy or theology. The demon writer of the tale is really a pathetic little thing who is more to be pitied than feared. Hardly the typical portrayal of a demon. This demon doesn't represent any GREAT evil, though he does represent something wrong with society. The more common evil that is lukewarmness. A wishy washy sort. The kind of person who stands for nothing and goes with the flow. For example, this nameless demon sides with Lucifer during the rebellion only because he thought God would be merciful if He won, and Lucifer would surely destroy all who opposed him if he were the Victor. And so he sided with what he himself calls a "Madman". It didn't turn out how he expected. The demon spends much of the book wondering, even begging to know why God is so merciful with man's indiscretions but cannot give the same forgiveness to the fallen angels.

If you are a person that is very jealous of accuracy in Biblical tales, this book may aggravate you. The author takes quite a bit of license when describing certain Biblical events. People who demand that writers stick to the Biblical versions of the stories will much prefer "Demon: A Memoir" by Tosca Lee.

But, if you are looking for something more fun and still heartwarming, this book will appeal to you. The author DOES have many good points and thought provoking moments here and there.
