It is amazing to realize just how much paper you can amass over the course of 15 years. I'm not talking about anything other than the bare bones basics: Bills, Pay Stubs, Taxes, Mortgages, and etc. In just over 15 years I was working on filling my seventh 4-drawer filing cabinet. Finally, I decided that enough was enough and I began digesting all the pertinent information I could find on creating a paperless office.

I had most of what I needed to tackle this job; but I was completely lost on which database I needed to purchase. I read every product review that I could find on this category of product. The most impressive product by a long shot was FileCenter 7 Professional. This product had all the features that I could ever ask for and try as I might I could find nothing negative written anywhere about this product. Based on this research I bought FileCenter 7 Professional approximately four months ago and spent approximately 3 days scanning and organizing every scrap of paper I had in those filing cabinets. Currently I have only one-half of one drawer in a 2-drawer filing cabinet filled.

I can heartily recommend FileCenter 7 Professional to anyone looking for either a replacement for Adobe Acrobat or looking to take on a silimilar paperless project. So much so, that I plan to upgrade to FileCenter 8 Professional. It is my plan to update this review once I obtain the upgrade.

Nuance has lost a long-time, but only marginally satisfied customer. Over the years Paperport has suffered a relentless effort by Nuance to destroy the product and it's customer base. Well, it was time for me to jump off that out of control spiral down, and find a stable alternative data management system. Thankfully, it didn't take long to find several competing products, and one that caught my eye: FileCenter Professional 8.

When you look at FileCenter 8, you may immediately recognize an uncanny resemblance to Paperport. Virtually every feature that I ever exploited in Paperport 12.1 - is there. FileCenter's "Cabinet" metaphor for file organization, scanning, OCR and PDF editing was a simple transition. The learning curve for all the other functionality is well supported by good documentation (including videos), a FAQ and a thorough knowledge base.

The fact that FileCenter is so stable when compared to Paperport, is a breath of fresh air. Also very notable is a rare experience for me: I haven't had to call the product's support line for a single issue. None!

Note: You need a license for each machine that FileCenter is installed on.

Amazon's application-download process ran as smooth as I could have hoped for. After the purchase, the install file and reg key are safely stored in a provided cloud account at Amazon.

Quite simply, I had a lot of paper to scan, and I wanted a tool that would allow me some real "professional" options. I originally started with Paperport and Omnipage, but the app would just not work. I tried multiple PC's and every time, the batch processing stalled and failed. It was a complete nightmare, and their support was pretty much worthless.

I then started trying as many apps as I could to see what could fill the need, and I stumbled on FileCenter Pro. Wow.

Extremely easy to use, it's relatively small in size, and it's fast! Also, it uses your standard filesystem to store files, so if you ever wanted to access them through another means, that option is available to you (I store all my docs on a network share from my Linux server).

The search is good, setting up separator pages is easy and they work well, and overall it's a joy to use.

I originally bough version 7 off of Amazon about a month and a half ago, and when I updated to version 8, the company was extremely helpful in sending me an updated product key as I was still in their upgrade window per their policy.

There are a couple things I would like to see in future products - such as an "Auto file" based on keyword, and the ability to move files around from the search window, but that does not detract from my 5 star rating. Keep up the great work!

I have not yet purchased this software - for now I am using it on a 30 day trial. I definitely plan on buying it, though, to replace Paperport V14 - which I have used over just about every version that ever came out for at least the last 10-15 years. The reason I looked for something to replace Paperport stems from the fact that I just moved my files over to a NAS device (Synology) and the performance of the Paperport desktop when you have a large # of files in a given folder is horrendous on that network drive. I did a lot of analysis on this - and found that this problem was unique to Paperport. I get great speed with the NAS transferring, loading files using Windows explorer and other programs. I have a NAS that happens to allow for bonding of multiple ethernet interfaces - so the throughput in and out of that device is quite good. And of course the support folks at Nuance tell you that Paperport shouldn't be used on a network - due to the poor performance. That seems pretty silly given today's increased popularity and use of NAS devices in the home. The problem would be almost tolerable if it wasn't just a performance issue on display of the contents of a given folder (even in list or detail view) - but if you are stupid enough to try to scan something new into that folder - good luck - your system will likely hang.

Anyhow - enough about Paperport - I only go over this to provide background on why I started looking for something to replace it.

When I installed FileCenter Pro - the first thing I did was define a cabinet that was the main folder where I have my Paperport data from over the years - out on the NAS. Then I went straight to the folder that was causing me the most problems - it has about 400 pdfs in it. Instead of waiting literally a couple of minutes for the contents to display - as I would have using Paperport - the display was instantaneous. I was completely floored at the difference.

As I have started to use the program more I have really come to like its features. Very nice facilities for working with PDF's. Being able to scan and append to an existing file is a nice feature that I need from time to time. With Paperport I would have to scan it in to a different name and then use the stack feature. FileCenter allows you to do that all in one step.

I use a Visioneer Strobe 500 scanner and I did find that I had to download the latest drivers for it and then use Mode B - Native Transfer setup in FileCenter to be able to use the document feeder on the Strobe for multiple pages at a time. Before I did that - I was not able to get the scanner to feed multiple pages in one shot. I would have to click on the Scan more dialog to get it to scan each page.

I have not had a chance to use some of the other features - such as separators to scan in multiple docs at a time - and I have just gotten my indexing set up - so I plan to play with that a bit more during the trial period - but to be honest - I never used that feature in Paperport much - my folder structure pretty much allows me to find what I need without having to resort to search very often.

I will try to update this review once I have had a chance to play with the features more - but so far - I am very happy and plan on purchasing it as a replacement for Paperport at the end of the trial period.

I have used this software in our business for many years and it has been a great asset to us. All our staff that have this software has been satisfied and have thanked me for buying it for them. For scanning and electronic file management it is second to none. The software does not use proprietary file formats like some do. Scanning, storage and mailing is extremely good. The company continues to develop and improve the product. One of the things I appreciate most is the customer service I get anytime that I have had a question or even an improvement suggestion. So much better than Nuance and a few others that I tried before settling on FC. Congrats to the entire team at FC it is rare in the software industry to get real support over the past 6-8 years. Thank you for all.

I bought this to replace the buggy Paperport Pro 14. This program is lighting fast. Does every you need to pdf files and more than Paperport. It is 55% off from Sept 1 - 7 2013. A steal at this price.

If you are looking for a quick and smooth document management program this is it. If you are looking for something to replaced the dreaded Paperport, look no further. You can download a trial from their website, that is all you need to be convinced.

I have a small parts warehouse and we scan alot of paper and I mean alot. Ive tried/seen about every peice of scanning software out there. Filecenter's faster then of any of them. Meaning it takes the least steps to get something scanned and saved. Not hard to learn either.

As a very active sporting goods store, we do a lot of special orders. We needed a way to keep track of all the paperwork, art files, digitized embroidery files and have a way to easily search for this data. I called several companies some of which wanted big bucks for such a program, but one executive said there was a company that could do it all for a very reasonable price. File Center was the company (Lucion). I must say it does more that I ask of it, complete flexibility as to what I can import into the cabinets, I can scan in paperwork as well as drag and drop artfiles, pdf files, embroidery files and any other format that may exist. I used to spend long hours trying to find files I need, but now with just a keyword I can bring up all information on an account including art, etc.
This program is worth ten times the going price.

FileCenter Pro - I purchased a couple of months ago and have found it to exceed my expectations. I find it much easier to keep my electronic files organized and accessible. The product plays well with other software programs on the market today, such as Microsoft Office. Keeping track of my electronic documents is critical to me and this software application makes it a SNAP.

Bottom line, if I had to do it over again, I would definitely purchase this product - as it is a great value. Hats off to the development team as well as to the sales/customer service department. If there were more stars than five, I would have selected.

I had been a longtime user of Paperport. When it came time to upgrade the reviews for the newer versions of Paperport were not encouraging so I searched for an alternative. I found FileCenter Pro, downloaded and installed it, and have never looked back. Excellent program for scanning, organizing and editing documents.
