5.0 out of 5 stars Funny and Interesting, May 6, 2001

While this book is aimed at children, adults will probably enjoy reading about the crazy situations that appear in it. The eleven year old protagonist, Pokey Bloom, loves to enter as many contests as she can in hopes of finally striking it rich. The book's scenes involving her family life are very humorous and well-written. Pokey's older brother has suddenly become a radical vegetarian who espouses yoga, health food and clean living while Pokey's father spends all his free time trying to fix their leaky bathtub. Pokey manages to get herself in some crazy situations and one especially funny scene takes place when she decides to sell greeting cards door-to-door (keep you eyes open for the scene involving Mrs. Stern). I hope this book gets reprinted and made available for wide distribution because it is a real pleasure to read and reread.
