5.0 out of 5 stars No bad luck in sight for this wonderful author!
Geralyn Dawson scores another win with her new novel, The Bad Luck Wedding Night, the latest in the Bad Luck series. This delightful story centers around Sarah Simpson and Nick Ross, and the journey they make from becoming man and wife to actually becoming "man and wife!" Dawson's wonderful sense of romance and humor shines in this story, and she brings back...

3.0 out of 5 stars Heroine lacking
Geralyn Dawson shows us once again that humor and romance do go hand in hand. She is wonderfully witty and imaginative. I also thouroughly enjoyed the return of the "McBride Menaces", who allied themselves with the newly christened "Ross Rascals" in their goal of permenantly reuniting the title couple. What I didn't like was the heroine herself. After she grew up a little...

This delightful story centers around Sarah Simpson and Nick Ross, and the journey they make from becoming man and wife to actually becoming "man and wife!" Dawson's wonderful sense of romance and humor shines in this story, and she brings back beloved characters from her previous stories to join in the fun. I love the way her Texas ladies interact with their English men, conquering them each and every time. Make sure to put this one in your to-be-read pile, up near the top! You'll be glad you did.

4.0 out of 5 stars Another hit for Geralyn Dawaon, April 10, 2001

The larger than life hero is bold, brave, daring, determined and meets his perfect match, marries her only to have her tell him she won't move to Scotland. Ten years later our heroine, who is plucky, intelligent, practical, and wise, is coerced into going to Scotland to see her soon to be ex-husband. That's when the fireworks begin. This is a wonderful story, filled with humor, great storyline and charming characters, including old friends from 2 of Ms. Dawson's previous books making an appearance. Will our hero and heroine reunite? Read and find out. A stellar book. I highly recommend to one and all

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Story, April 3, 2001

Just like the back cover copy says, this one is truly something wonderful! I couldn't put the book down. The characters sparkle from beginning to end. Nick is honorable and intelligent with a yummy touch of wicked thrown in. I love the letters he writes in the Pillow Book to seduce Sarah. Ms. Dawson's sense of humor shines in this story. THE BAD LUCK WEDDING NIGHT is a keeper!

This review is from: The Bad Luck Wedding Night (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
Somehow I missed this one when it first came- what a great used bookstore find. It was funny and charming and all what I expect from this author. Off to re-check the backlist to make sure I haven't missed anything else.

4.0 out of 5 stars An enjoyable read, April 3, 2001
This review is from: The Bad Luck Wedding Night (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
In 1877 Fort Worth, Texas Nick Ross marries Sarah Simpson. However, happily ever after ends rather quickly when Baptist Preacher Harris casts his daughter Susan out of their home because she is filled with sin. Susan claims that Nick sired the child growing within her and since she once saved his life, he refuses to deny her accusation. For all practical purposes his marriage to Sarah is over.

Over a decade later, Nick orders his wife Sarah to come to England planning to finally end the farce of their cross-Atlantic marriage. However, once Sarah arrives, Nick quickly changes his mind. Being a successful spy for the crown, Nick knows the need of a good plan if he is to re-win the heart of his beloved Sarah.

THE BAD LUCK WEDDING NIGHT is an enjoyable historical romance that fans of the previous novels in this wonderful series will realize continues Geralyn Dawson's high level of quality. The story line is humorous as Nick mounts a campaign to court and re-gain his beloved's heart. The return of stars from previous tales augments the plot with depth and a feeling of homecoming. Fans of the author know that there is never a blue note when Ms. Dawson writes a novel.

After she grew up a little she was definitely less selfish and self centered but she blamed Nick for everything from their horrid wedding night to their failed marriage up to the very end. In actuality she was the one to balme. If she had trusted her husband to get her through the uncomfortable part of the wedding night unscathed (well, mostly unscathed) she might have realized a lot sooner than she did that she actually liked sex. I mean really, how much beating to his pride can a man take? She also displayed her lack of loyalty to her husband when she didn't believe him about Susan. I could sympathize with her being young and not wanting to leave her family to a strange country and all that but how in God's name could she blame him for going?! His father had just been proclaimed dead! She acted like a bouquet of flowers and a tersly worded note at the funeral would be sufficient! I was appalled at the lack of sensativity that Mrs. Dawson displayed in her. Insensativity is supposed to be for men. Other than her the book was fun, witty, and charming.

2.0 out of 5 stars Nothing Special, April 17, 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Bad Luck Wedding Night (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I can't say I enjoyed this book. At the beginning, the hero and heroine were quite immature, but that was the point. However, ten years later I don't think they'd advanced all that far. The only thing that made their later relationship believable was the fact that they'd corresponded regularly over the course of ten years, and that correspondence meant a lot to each of them. However, when they were reunited after ten years, they didn't seem to know that much more about each other than when they'd parted. I thought the characters were entirely too modern in their attitudes and behavior, and I found it somewhat annoying. I couldn't really lose myself in this book, and to me that's the whole point of reading fiction.

I've read most of the books in this series. They are a great read for vacations, rainy days, flu, etc. They have interesting characters and take you away to a different place for a little while, a place where you can believe you are living in that time and with those characters. Love the continuation of the series where characters are brought back and integrated with the new story lines. It's like being reunited with old friends. Totally recommend all of the Bad Luck series.

5.0 out of 5 stars TERRIFIC, WITTY READ, April 8, 2001
This review is from: The Bad Luck Wedding Night (Sonnet Books) (Mass Market Paperback)
I have read all of Ms. Dawson's books. "The Bad Luck Wedding Night" is now my ABSOLUTE favorite! If I am in need of a rollicking, witty, fun filled romance, with an iron-willed Lord and a strong-willed Lady(young & spoiled at the time of the marriage), both as stubborn as they can be, neither willing to compromise, then I pull this book from my stack and enjoy the ride!

They have been apart for ten years, and if anything, the years have made them more determined to each have their own way. Our handsome Lord blackmails his wife into coming to Scotland. He needs a wife, she wants a divorce. Watch the fireworks ignite. Along the way we meet a wonderful cast of secondary characters.

This book is Ms Dawson at her best. I highly recommend this book. It won't disappoint you.

this was another wonderful book by Geralyn Dawson, as always she writes with humor and wit. The two main carachters Sara and Nick are great. Instead of instead attraction, these two build a realtionship over ten years through letters. They know they care about each other but have obstecles in their way, not other people, or misunderstandings, but the decision on where to live, and other practical issues. Also a nice touch is how the aurthor includes characters from her other books in this one.
