Editorial Reviews

In his time as chief photographer at Rolling Stone, Mark Seliger shot the top names in music, with whom he developed lasting friendships. During that period Seliger also began writing his own music. Jakob Dylan heard Seliger's material and was impressed enough to invite him to his studio to record and write.

Dylan uses the phrase lonesome music to describe the Rusty Truck sound and Seliger agrees: It is kind of lonesome. It has a lot of my influences, everything from ZZ Top to Neil Young, Leon Russell and Tex-Mex to Wilco.

Originally available as a limited release under the title Broken Promises, this debut album has been expanded and thoroughly re-imagined as Luck's Changing Lanes, giving Mark Seliger's songs and unique American imagery the presentation they deserve. It s been quite a journey but this beautiful collection speaks for itself.

Special guests: T Bone Burnett, Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan, Lenny Kravitz, Willie Nelson, Rob Thomas, Gillian Welch.

Was referred to Rusty Truck by a friend. Great value w/ a CD & DVD. Nice combo of Americana, blues & folk...and not too country. Superb quality recordings. Great guest artists w/ Sheryl Crow, Jakob Dylan, Willie Nelson. Best thing about the album was the companion DVD that contained creatively mixed DTS surround recordings and 5 beautifully shot music videos. I hope to hear more from this artist.

5.0 out of 5 stars Most Underrated Album Ever! February 6, 2009
Format:Audio CD
This album first came out as Broken Promises and I never understood why it never made it anywhere. This album is a beautiful imagined hybrid of 90's Wilco, 70s Pure Prairie League and every meticulously produced Americana album in between (Jayhawks, Ryan Adams, et al). Catchy, hummable, impeccably played, recorded and produced, the HBO series True Blood "resurrected" this band with the use of the song "Cold Ground". Every song on this album sounds like a hit! Buy it! Buy it! Buy it!

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow March 7, 2009

This really surprised me. What a talented guy. Too bad it's his side gig. A great blend 70's, 80's and today's rootsy pop, all mixed in a brand fantastic songwriting that is above what you'll hear anywhere today. If you took a mixture of Todd Rungren, Niel Young, America, Seals & Crofts, The Band, and you put their best efforts together, you'd get Rusty Truck. I hope we get more in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST.......PERIOD! October 17, 2008
Format:Audio CD
This is without a doubt one of the best overall compilations I have ever heard. a perfect mix of haunting country and folk music that most everyone can enjoy. this is one of those albums you feel you have almost found a buried treasure. you want to keep it to yourself, but feel you must share the wealth and excitement of it all. A bit flowery for a description, I must admit, but listen to the tracks and you'll find yourself lost in the stories. perfect for anyone who enjoys light country with a great story. FIVE STARS AND WANTING TO GIVE MORE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Easy Listening May 2, 2010
Format:Audio CD|Verified Purchase
I heard of this album on NPR. It was recommended by Brian Williams on Bri Tunes. Sheryl Crow and Willy Nelson add gravitas to Rusty Truck. The songs are sung and written by a photographer who sings and plays guitar as a hobby. He wrote the lyrics and does the vocals. The lyrics are often used to create images in the listener's mind.
If you like Poco, you'll like this music. It's a blend of country, folk, and pop music, mellow and easy to listen to. L.W.

5.0 out of 5 stars I like every song on the album July 14, 2014
Format:MP3 Music|Verified Purchase
I like every song on the album. First heard Every Time on Pandora and loved it. Doesn't fit one genre and that's one reason I really like it.
