5.0 out of 5 stars Totally awesome, must have ski accessory for kid
Customer Video Review     Length:: 0:55 Mins
Love the handle for getting on the ski lift. Love the way the backpack wraps around the belly under the arms and over the shoulder. The clips attach in the front and at first I thought why. Well it allows you to effectively steer the child. A little extra tension on one side or the other and it will rotate them to change the direction. If it was...

3.0 out of 5 stars I Found Something Better
I think for ski harnesses, this one seems to be the cream of the crop. But if you're trying to teach your kids to ski, I found something that I believe works better. I posted a review for that product but since this was the other product I considered, and because I read and appreciated all the reviews on this page, I wanted to share my experience with others who are...

Love the handle for getting on the ski lift. Love the way the backpack wraps around the belly under the arms and over the shoulder. The clips attach in the front and at first I thought why. Well it allows you to effectively steer the child. A little extra tension on one side or the other and it will rotate them to change the direction. If it was on the back it would just slow them down. The reins can come off or stay on and bunched up and stored in the backpack. The handle was great if she fell. I could just grab it and pop her right back up. The rounded tube for the handle is a must for gloved hands. Never missed it when I reached to grab it. I would come into the lift at a fast speed, pull in the reins and ski up next to her. Grab the handle and ski right into the lift area without all the effort of trying to walk up with skis on. Remember neither of you will have poles to propel yourself on level ground. I got video of us skiing with the backpack, hopefully it helps you make a decision.

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic...can take kid anywhere, January 24, 2010

Although I was initially skeptical of this item, as I have a true disdain for "leash-for-kids" products, I must highly praise this ski trainer. Last year, it got my 3 yr. old skiing on his own, intermediate slope capability, in about 3 weekends. We passed it down to his 18-month old sister, and were able take her on all the blues and greens for the rest of the season. This year, she is 2.5, and just started making her first solo, no-string turns in January. I highly recommend this product if you want a quick, cry/whine-free introduction to skiing. As a parent, the ski trainer allows me to bring my children wherever I wish on the mountain (no diamonds of course), offering freedoms that are sorely missed when you are confined to the bunny slope with a kid between your legs. Even with bulky mittens, the pack and strings are simple to attach and stow. Well done Lucky Bums.

I really like the Lucky Bums Ski Trainer. We bought it to help teach my son how to ski. I am very pleased with this product. It is very easy to lift him into the ski lift, not to mention lifting him off the ground when he falls. The harness is a good length and helps us teach him how to turn as well as guide him down the hill.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must Have. Awesome Device!, January 16, 2010

Got this for Christmas from my wife to help our boy learn how to ski. We'd taken him a couple of times last year and the experience is 10x more enjoyable with this device for the following reasons: 1) you don't kill your back holding your child between your legs 2) it allows you to slowly release the slack and let them go on their own while maintaining control. So they can first get comfortable and gain confidence. Would highly recommend this to anyone that wants to teach their young children how to ski especially if you are a decent skier yourself. We paid for lessons last year and compared to the results we got from the Ski Trainer they were a waste of time. Well worth the money! Good luck.

5.0 out of 5 stars Works great for the littlest ones, November 9, 2009

When my 2 year old was learning, I skied next to her with my hand loosely on the handle -- allowed her to control her own skis, but as soon as she started to fall, I would just pick her up, stop for a second to let her get her legs straight, and continue on. Zero hard falls kept the fun factor high, and she pretty quickly learned to keep her skis straight -- never used edgie-wedgies.

The products that just feature harnesses without the handle wouldn't allow this.

Plus -- as she got older, the "cool" factor of having a backpack like mommy & daddy helped us convince her to keep using it.

This is a great product! I got it to help teach my 5 year old how to ski. This gives her the freedom of skiing on her own while I get to control her speed. The handle is also very useful. Each time she fell I could just grab teh handle and boost her up, this is highly underrated. The handle turned out to be just as important to the ski day as the tethers to control her speed. Highly Recommended!

Great harness/leash combo ... used this to give our kid the confidence she needed (by way of her thinking, "I'm still connected to mom/dad, I'll be ok") to set aside her fear for a bit and focus on skiing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Product, December 31, 2009

This simple product is great if you've got a little one(3-5) learning to ski. The leashes can be helpful but your child will likely outgrow them quickly. It's the simple handle and harness system that is really helpful for a couple of seasons. It's a great aid for getting on and off lifts or helping them up after a spill.

This has been wonderful to have. We have been able to let our 3 year old ski down the driveway all winter to get ready for the slopes next year. He has a blast!

We bought this harness not for skiing but to visit Grand Canyon with our 6 years old very punchy son. And it's great we really feel more secure on the walking way close to the Canyon.
