5.0 out of 5 stars Lucky Day, October 31, 2002
By A Customer

On his new album, Lucky Day, Shaggy expands his already unique pop reggae vision with fourteen original songs, Lucky Day is an blend of whine-and-grind dancehall ("Full Control" featuring Barrington Levy), sultry R&B hip-hop ("Get My Party On" featuring Chaka Khan), blue-lights-in-the-basement lovers rock ("Strength of a Woman") and conscious reggae funk ("Give Thanks").

While the above songs are guaranteed to keep his legion of fans well satisfied, it's the "experimental" tracks like the humorous "Hey Sexy Lady," laced with mariachi trumpet, flamenco guitar, and castanets ("You put it on me ceiling to floor/ Only you can make me holla out for more"), and the bubbly old school reggae-country hybrid "We Are the One" that elevate Lucky Day to higher ground.

2.0 out of 5 stars Every OTHER album he releases is good, October 23, 2003
I remember watching a commercial a few months ago that spotlighted an album of current R&B "hits", and at one point they mentioned Shaggy. And I said, "Shaggy has a song out?" After the success of "It Wasn't Me" and "Angel" back in '01, Shaggy kind of disappeared...or so I thought. But after hearing this album, I'm starting to think that maybe disappearing would have been a better move.

The problem with this album, besides the fact that Shaggy went back to announcing his name at the beginning of every track, is that it really has nothing to offer. This is evidenced best by a bad choice for the leadoff single, "Hey Sexy Lady". But the rest of the songs aren't that great either. "Shake Shake Shake" is really lazy, "Leave Me Alone" is atrocious, and "Get My Party On" (featuring Chaka Khan) isn't much more than embarrassing (that song isn't even that fast, so how could you party to it anyway?). Even Barrington Levy fails to impress on "Full Control".

The rest of the songs on here are just weird. "We Are The Ones" and "Lost" make no sense. And the album ends with a hidden bonus track, which is an obligatory song featuring Sean Paul, a 1990-flavored remix of "Hey Sexy Lady". And that song also does nothing to help matters. The only way you'll really have a Lucky Day is if you don't hear this album.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointed...Disappointed!, November 22, 2002
I am a huge Shaggy fan and couldn't believe how much I loved the "Hotshot" album on which EVERY single song was great which I think is extremely unusual. I was psyched to hear his new stuff but it just doesn't cut it. It's pretty monotonous and not real danceable...just nothing hooked me. I will continue to keep an ear out for more from him but this one? Nah.
