Playful, Passionate, Powerful!,
This review is from: Lucky Dumpling (Audio CD)
First of all...Kimi...I want to have your baby! Now that I got that off my chest, I just want to say how very wonderful Moonpools and Caterpillars are. They're very wonderful! I don't hunt around for a favorite song because they're all my favorites, I just listen to the whole damn CD. And believe me, there aren't many bands that do that for me. I have around 200 cd's and this one is always in heavy rotation on my play list. All the musicians are first rate, and Kimi's voice is something to behold. The only other songstress I can think of that has that much range in Bjork. But a lot of Bjork's stuff is almost completely inaccessible. Kimi on the other hand is a vocal daredevil who takes us along on her very special carnival ride. God I love this band. It's very sad to see that they have disbanded. Music business BS, no doubt. It's always a threath of bresh air to see young musicians who don't resort to being loud and obnoxious and vulgar just to get their point across. And even if they are loud and obnoxious they usually don't have much to say. Moonpools has something to say. You should listen. Peace, Love, and Soul.....Train! :) Jim-Bob says: Check 'em out!

My All-Time Favorite Album,
By
This review is from: Lucky Dumpling (Audio CD)
I, like so many others, first heard Moonpools' music on "Wish Upon a Star", and I was completely entranced. It didn't hit me until I'd seen the movie quite a few times to wait to see the end credits and find out more about the band. They do have a website with all the lyrics and a bit of background information on the band, but I'm so sad that they haven't done anything else. I finally got the CD, and I've fallen in love. It's my new favorite album and I'm trying to convert as many people as possible to be Moonpools fans, because they rock my socks off and make my day. My favorite song is "Trampling Rose". How they took lyrics that were so down and made them seem like the most upbeat music ever, I'll never know, but I do know that I've had the time of my life grooving to Moonpools!!

I, like lots of the others first saw them on the disney movie- wish upon a star. i totally fell in love w/them. i waited 4 the credits and got their name. i searched all over for the cd but with no luck. then again i live in idaho. well then i finally found it while on a vacation in kansas. i bought and absolutely love it. it is the best cd i have ever bought. i am still not tired of it. i wrote the band an e-mail telling them about this and kimi wrote me back! i was totally overjoyed. i thought that was awesome that a star would take the time to write someone a personalized e-mail. they are definetly my favorite band. and now the favorite band of most people who know me. you should definetly buy this cd.

My shame,
This review is from: Lucky Dumpling (Audio CD)
I'm ashamed that my name has not been on the list of avid fans here since Amazon first went online. Moonpools and Caterpillars are my favorite band. Without question.I remember oh so clearly the first time I heard them.....I was in San Diego visiting some friends and was kicking about in their living room, listening to the radio. And then it happened. The Radio played HEAR. And I danced. I couldn't help myself. And when it was over I was exhausted. This was 1994, and I've been with the Moonps since then. It's a travesty that the Pink Album and 12 Songs aren't available nationally also. It's unspeakable how Electra dropped them. Do yourself a favor and pick this cd up. You'll never find happier, better music. Life was meant to be good. Live it up! ---avid moonper

Terrific album from a group that burned out way too fast,
By
This review is from: Lucky Dumpling (Audio CD)
I first encountered Moonpools & Caterpillars while working on the post-production for a relatively obscure preteen movie named "The Babysitters Club". Even hearing little snippets of their songs, I knew this was a group I wanted to know better. They had a bright, terrific pop sound that I've rarely heard anywhere else (somewhat like the Go-Gos and Bonnie Hayes and the Wild Combo, but with their own twist), and this phenomenal sound is fully showcased on their "Lucky Dumpling" album. The group broke up, unfortunately, not too long after this album came out, so this is your one and only opportunity to hear what was and what could be. Whatever you have to do, get your hands on "Lucky Dumpling". It just quite simply rocks.

Great POP!,

LUCKY DUMPLING is a great debut album by a great band. It really is that simple. And if you think the CD is great... you should have seen them live. They are all about possitive energy, great music and the best of fun. KIMI's vocals are unrivaled, JAY JAY's guitars are tuneful and have great texture, TIM's bass playing is solid and exciting and GUGUT's drums... sparkling good! Remember the cool VW commercial with the scat singing... THAT was "HEAR" by Moonpools & Caterpillars! Buy this now and tell a friend... tell lots of friends!

Review,
This review is from: Lucky Dumpling (Audio CD)
The songs on Lucky Dumpling range from gentle shimmer to full-throttle roar, centering around the buoyant voice of vocalist Kimi, whose playful "aw shucks" lilt makes even the sad songs sound cheerful. In an age where the prevailing musical winds blow dark and heavy, it's hard not to be charmed by the band's infectious optimism. With themes ranging from love to the wonder of life to ever-hopeful odysseys of self-discovery, Lucky Dumpling is itself a journey of sorts, hitting the road in high gear with the frenetic, guitar-fueled first track "Hear" and returning soundly home again at the end with the exquisite, delicate "Crazy Old World." Indeed, these two songs set the tone for the album, with lines like "I'm here, I'm uneasy and I'm ready to go / And I won't stop until this goes round and round" (From "Hear") and "Inspired by all that's set before me ... / I can't wait until tomorrow, I am bound to see it all / It's a crazy old world that I've been made a part of" (From "Crazy Old World"). Along the way the band's bright convictions effervesce on "Summertime," its slinky sample from War's classic "Low Rider" perfectly capturing the excitement of summer romance; "Colossal Youth," which expresses the pain and confusion of adolescence in its refrain of "I need to grow"; and "Traveling Song," with its poignant observations about life around this enormous country. Though they may not be around anymore, there are some things you might find, check out the site, or send me e-mail. Thanks Amazon.com!

It's an album worth getting even though they're gone.,

Lucky Dumpling, one of the best cd's that I have. The songs on this album are written with such wit and charm that they keep me rocking since I got introduced to their music last 1997. The only regret that I have is that they called it quits, they let the fat lady have her vocal solo, they packed it up and they got the hell outta Dodge, and they pulled the Moonpool train into the station. Confused on what those meant ? I suggest picking up this album and finding out for yourself. There's a good feeling that I always tend to associate everytime I listen to the songs from this album. For me, this is probably the best album they ever put out ... there were a couple of independent albums that they sold in their concerts (ex. The Pink Album, 12 Songs). Moonpools and Caterpillars is gone, but their music will live on. Rock on guys !!!

One great alt-rock classic and perfect summertime album!,
By
This review is from: Lucky Dumpling (Audio CD)
LUCKY DUMPLING is a superb and seriously overlooked alt-rock classic from the mid-90's. Back around '96 you may have heard "Hear" somewhere on the TV or radio and wondered "who was that?" before it became merely a distant memory. Moonpools & Caterpillars' infectious pop sensibility will win you over on this album. "Kimi" Ward Encarnacion's vocals fall somewhere amongst Natalie Merchant, Dolores O'Riordan and Gwen Stefani -- sparkly and earthy. Standout songs are: "Hear" (why wasn't this a bigger hit?), "Ren", "Soon" (beautiful, anthemic and yearning), "Colossal Youth", "Heaven" and "Sundays" (another gorgeous pop gem). Do yourself a favor and pick up this album -- it may just become a one of your favorites for the coming summer!
