5.0 out of 5 stars They way 'Punk' should be.
This is truly 'punk' as I grew up to know it. Political, meaningful, sincere, considered and full of energy. Information on Judi Barry and lots of great lyrics to sing in the factory. This one is for all the wage slaves and people concerned with the hegemony of white, corporate politics. GET IT.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unlistenable
I bought this a while back on the recommendation of a friend who praised it as the be-all, end-all of indie punk. I tried. Believe me, I tried. The messages, lyrics, ad ideas may be right on, but the music itself is bland and only so-so, pretty basic acoustic folk. And the vocals? God almighty, I can not get over how terrible Jeff Ott sounds on this thing. The sound is...

4.0 out of 5 stars A New, but still great, Fifteen., April 8, 1999
By A Customer
This review is from: Lucky (Audio CD)
I was lucky enough to get an advance copy of this album. The band has opted for less personal songs, the only one being about a friend who commited suicide, whom they also named the album after. Fifteen is generally faster, neater and angrier now. The optimism of Swain's First Bike Ride is still here (We Will Win), it's just gotten angry after years of frustration. Features several electric versions of acoustic songs by Fifteen and from Jeff Ott's solo album.

5.0 out of 5 stars Easily Jeff Ott's best album, September 6, 2007
This review is from: Lucky (Audio CD)
"Lucky" is the closest Jeff Ott has ever gotten to greatness (this is technically a Fifteen album, but Ott and Fifteen have about the same relationship as Billy Corgan and the Smashing Pumpkins do; Ott basically is Fifteen). This is easily his most consistent album, with several classics on here. "Family Values," "My Congressman," "Stolen Life," and "Land" are among the best songs he's ever written. "Man Against Man," "Mount Shrink Wrap," "War on Drugs," and "Payback is Beautiful" are also stand-outs. Recommended to anyone that loves the fusion of politics and music. I really hope Ott writes more albums in the future, in spite of his promises that he won't.

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the most important bands of our generation, August 15, 2000
This review is from: Lucky (Audio CD)
15 are what punk is when you push the boundries. and for the top reviewer, you're quite vain to say something like that, the whole style is meant to be that way, angry yet informative. and the ballad lucky makes you really think about where you stand in life... every single time you hear it. get all the 15 releases today.

1.0 out of 5 stars Unlistenable, April 8, 2010
This review is from: Lucky (Audio CD)
I bought this a while back on the recommendation of a friend who praised it as the be-all, end-all of indie punk. I tried. Believe me, I tried. The messages, lyrics, ad ideas may be right on, but the music itself is bland and only so-so, pretty basic acoustic folk. And the vocals? God almighty, I can not get over how terrible Jeff Ott sounds on this thing. The sound is mixed horribly, the vocals are mixed WAY too loud, he sings completely off-key, it's just, well, words simply can't describe how utterly bad the singing is. I tried many times to like it, honestly I did. I just can't. It seems to me the good reviews of this CD are more because of the messages than the music itself. I appreciate good songwriting, but only when it's put to good song. It's a shame, because I really liked Crimpshrine (Ott's old band) but to me, this CD was wasted money because it is completely unlistenable, it's just not pleasing to the human ear.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ahhhh, diamond in rough ((BTW, Not Kid)), May 27, 2005
This review is from: Lucky (Audio CD)
Well I got this cassette from subcity for free, and after listening to a couple of times, I really loved it! I ended up buying the cd. And let me tell you, its really awesome!! Its angry, yet upbeat, and full of energy. You can sing, dance, play air guitar, and of course its driven. But I guess not really for everyone, but definetly if youve heard 15 and liked it, wow you are missing out. I think this is the 15 cd to buy, plus the lyrics are really sweet. "I didnt shoot no dope today, just put on my guitar to play..." A lot of memorable parts. I love it!!!
