Follow your fate... It might just lead to the romance of a lifetime!

Superstitious fortune cookie collector Ventura Hart has embarked on a new adventure in Washington, DC. Armed with a masters degree in writing, she has ambitions of working for a major news publication. But the job market is tight, and after a while Ventura realizes she can't be that picky. When she meets a handsome young bachelor in need of a nanny, she thinks she's found a temporary solution. Little does Ventura know, she's headed down a new path that will lead to more than she's ever hoped for.

Single dad Richard Blake is at his wits' end trying to secure help for his mischievous five-year-old twins. Known as DC's most eligible bachelor, the entrepreneurial magazine editor never imagines he'll fall for the one woman he's sure he can't have. She looks after his kids and has a boyfriend to boot. So his attraction to her is beside the point. But when Ventura becomes enmeshed in his family and Richard finds himself losing his heart, is there a way to secure a happy ending? It could all depend on a little bit of luck, and a whole lot of destiny.

A sweet, traditional PG-rated romantic comedy.
Standard novella-length, approximately 30,000 words.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cute & Quick April 8, 2013

Other than being a little short I can't think of one bad thing to say about My Lucky Groom. Venture and Richard are solid characters that feel real and don't make decisions that have the reading balking in disbelief. The twins, although barely there, were great little monsters and I would have loved to see their mischief in a full length novel. Quick read that you'll find fun and loving.

5.0 out of 5 stars loved it! February 8, 2014
By Roberta
Format:Kindle Edition
This is my second and a half book by Ginny Baird (the half being a short story) and I truly love her writing style.
Ventura reminds a little of Bridget Jones at times, and I couldn't help but liking her from the very beginning. She's the girl anyone would want as their best friend. Unlike Bridget, though, Ventura is also smart and has goals, she's not rude and doesn't sleep around. She's waiting to meet the man of her dreams and succeed in her career as a writer, but she knows her bulky frame (due to her love for Chinese food and fortune cookies!) and her lack of fashion style doesn't help her case.
What happens when she catches the eye of a hot and wealthy man at a party? You'll have to read the book and discover it by yourselves! :)
All I can say is that I really enjoyed this book, from the plot to the characters, everything was captivating and entertaining. I loved the side characters, the twins, Mary, Nanette, Jason - they all played an important part in the story and in Ventura's life.
A clean romance that will hook you from the start and will make you laugh.

5.0 out of 5 stars Love! Love! Love! June 13, 2013
I absolutely loved this book. It was funny and sweet. The first scene when Ventura had a date with her father at a Chinese restaurant hooked me from the beginning. I loved Richard and I'm glad there wasn't too much drama--fighting and making up between him and Ventura. I have to admit that I also loved Charles. I hope there will be a book about him in the future. Ventura is a lucky lady to have two great guys in love with her. I recieved this book from the author in a contest and am so glad she sent it to me. I loved the secondaries--Ventura's new "family"--I have friends like that myself who mean so much to me.

I'm anxious to read the next story!

5.0 out of 5 stars Darling story! April 2, 2014
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
The story is a little bit like a fairytale itself. Ventura comes to Washington, D.C. to make her fortune as a journalist. She meets a waitress who takes her under her wing. Ventura moves into Mary's quirky apartment in the basement of a house owned by an even quicker landlady. Mary gives Ventura a much-needed makeover (are we thinking fairy godmother, folks?) and takes her to a fancy gala where she locks eyes with the handsome prince.
The book is written with love and lots of humor. I recommend it to anyone who enjoys sweet and humorous stories

This book was a good, easy read. If you just want something to read for the sake of reading, especially something silly and romantic, this is a good choice.

2.0 out of 5 stars Cute, but not much there ... April 18, 2013
By S.
Format:Kindle Edition|Verified Purchase
Really not much to this. Very simple writing, flimsy story. None of the characters rung true, no development there. The dialog did not sound authentic. Why, oh why, do authors insist on making the heroine a babbling, accident-prone idiot? It's not endearing, just embarrassing. She had a master's degree in journalism, give her some credit.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet feel-good romance April 8, 2013
Format:Kindle Edition
If you are after a sweet short-ish romantic read this is perfect. It's a well-written story with many funny moments, very endearing characters, a nice storyline and it left me with a smile on my face when I had finished.

Ventura is quirky, clumsy and shy and when we first meet her she is has a bit of the ugly duckling going on. Her best friend Mary takes her under her wing and she is transformed into the swan finding a new found quiet confidence. Needing a job she ends up working for eligible bachelor and businessman Richard, as nanny to his 5 year old uncontrollable twins (who themselves were fabulous little characters).

It was a great free offering and I wouldn't have been disappointed had I paid for it. If, like me, every now and again you just want to read a heartwarming realistic romance without any sexual content this is well worth it and I can recommend.

What a sweet story.

I was hooked from the very first page when eleven year old Ventura was having a date night with her father.

I laughed out loud literally when Richards boxer shorts got tangled around Ventura's foot.
