3.0 out of 5 stars One of Collins' two best
"Lucky," along with its prequel, "Chances," are the two best novels that Jackie Collins ever wrote. Collins will never be mistaken for Toni Morrison any time in the near future, but in her day she excelled in the fast-paced glitzy beach read. Of course, as in all of her novels, Collins wastes minimal time with character development and plot...

Lucky Santangelo is ruthless, cunning, and attractive. She is the daughter of the gangster Gino Santangelo and she lets nothing stand in her way. She is a woman who is on top of things and never allows anyone to stand in her way. Lucky marries the father of her estranged high school girlfriend Olympia Stanislopolous. Olympia angered by the marriage and envied by her slim physique, vows to have nothing to do with her. Lenny Golden, the comic who married the Greek heiress, is in love with Lucky. And who can blame him? Then there are the other characters Santino Bonnatti, his wife and mistress (who is also Lenny's ex-girlfriend), Carrie Berkely and her son Steven (who is also the illegitimate son of Gino Santangelo), and others that the make the novel a great read. Jackie Collins knows what to write and how to write it.

5.0 out of 5 stars High profile lives and lots of crazy love!, February 22, 2000
By
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the first book, of the series, that I have read. You DO NOT need to read the first to understand the second. But, I can't wait to read the first, to know even more depth! The sex, drugs, and rock n roll apply to some characters, not all..(just as in real life). One character's strengths helps another's weaknesses. And they are forever crossing paths, (once again, just as it is in real life). There aren't too many books that can bring you through so many highs, in one read!. This is more than a great story, it is a saga! I'm sure that the mini-series doesn't do it justice. I have felt love, hate, passion, independence, fear and more. I had a 'birds eye view' of the gangster, the 'gypsy', the homosexuals', the 'starving' actor/actress, the heiress, the drug-addicted, the snobish, the mothers, the fathers, the prostitute, the lawyer, and more, WOW! There is suspense, there is death, there is love. The love itself, is a web! Some what slap-stick. Everyone loves someone else, and it takes years for them to find out, or to have the perfect opportunity to confront it. No matter, what kind of reader you are, I think you will enjoy this particular book very much!

5.0 out of 5 stars Lucky by Jackie Collins, October 15, 2003

This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
Jackie Collins' Lucky, is a novel about power, love, lust, sex and crime. Daughter of a powerful man, Lucky Santangelo, an erotic and wild beauty, plans on continuing the family tradition with honor. Hungry for power, success and pleasure Lucky sets out seeking for her desires. Before she knows it, Lucky embarks herself on an adventure full of glory, passion, trouble, sex, vengeance and suspense. From Vegas to New York after her father's unexpected and undesirable wedding. Pregnant by the world's richest man, Dimitri Stanislopoulos, a passionate lover, Lucky lives her life between her East Hampton home in New York and her son's father's private Greek Islands. Off on business in Atlantic City, Lucky hits the road with power, money, glory and love. Her glory is cut short, when her dangerous past catches her back leading her to court.

This novel is extraordinary. This novel kept me reading, I couldn't take my eyes or mind off the book. Jackie Collins gets deep into descriptions making you feel the characters emotions and desires. As you read on and learn more about each one, you feel that you know these people. You can just imagine each scenario in your head, and feel that you are part of the scene but that no one can see you.

5.0 out of 5 stars Much improved from Chances!, July 5, 2002

This novel surpasses Chances in ways that are indescribable. Lucky is owning and running her own hotel, which is very upper-class and expensive. Then we are intwined with other characters such as Olympia, Brigette, Carrie, Lennie (soon to play a major part in her life), and Steven, who is unfortunately a good character that is totally wasted. Other than that small flaw, this novel is completely wonderful, and should not be missed.

5.0 out of 5 stars I loved this book!, August 14, 2000
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
Lucky Santangelo is my favorite character in the Jackie Collins novels. I enjoy reading about her because she is a strong and intelligent female character who can hold her own. The book "Lucky" was very well-written. It was steamy, and racy at most times, but that's what's great about this book--it's honest. It lets you know what goes on behind the scenes of the rich and powerful.

4.0 out of 5 stars 'LUCKY', September 11, 2002
By
DevJohn01 (Somerset, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
'LUCKY' is the second installment of the Lucky Santangelo series and in a departure from the first book `CHANCES'; 'LUCKY' puts the focus on the beautiful and headstrong daughter of former mobster Gino Santangelo.

In this second installment Lucky takes on the task of building her own hotel in Atlantic City but runs into a few obstacles as well as old friends along the way. Lucky's childhood friend Olympia Stanislopolus is reintroduced to us in this novel as a twenty-seven year old, thrice divorced heiress with a lust for rock stars, drugs and sex. We are also reintroduced to Olympia's father, Demitri Stanislopolus, the founder of one of the world's largest shipping empires and one of the richest men in the world, who, without giving away too much, is inexplicably drawn to Lucky whom he'd only seen as a child before but now sees as a woman. Jackie Collins also introduces us to a host of new characters such as Lennie Golden, an attractive up and coming comedian who after a chance encounter with Lucky at the Magiriano, the Las Vegas hotel owned by Lucky and Gino, has his sights set on the dark haired beauty. Then there is Jess a blackjack dealer at the Magiriano and Lennie's best friend who, after tragedy strikes, ends up making a new life for herself by taking Lennie's career in her hands. We also meet Santino Bonnatti, son of Enzio Bonnatti a long time Santangelo family rival, who vows to take revenge on Lucky after his father's death.

`LUCKY' is a great follow up to `CHANCES' and gives the reader a taste of what's to come for Lucky and Gino in the future Lucky Santangelo novels. The only complaint that I had with this novel is that Collins did not focus enough on the building relationship between Gino, Lucky and Steven Berkley, Gino's newfound son. But overall `LUCKY' is another excellent book by Collins. 4 ½ stars!

5.0 out of 5 stars KEPT ME AT THE EDGE OF MY SEAT!!, February 2, 2005
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
What more can I say? All of the money in the world could not get me to pry my fingers off of this book. In Collins' sophomore release of the Santangelo saga we get reaquainted with the awe-inspiring, business savy and headstrong Lucky Santangelo, daughter of the notorious Gino "The Ram" Santagelo -- former mob boss.

Not one iota of what Collins' writes in this book comes off as being unrealistic, boring or repeptitive. Writing a book like this takes pure, unadulturated talent!! How she manages to come up with new and exciting characters, keep us thouroughly updated on old ones, intertwine all of their storylines FLAWLESSLY and leave her fans begging for more is harder to comprehend then learning Chinese Arithmatic in Latin!

Lucky comes back geared and ready for a whole new peril. I don't know if there is much I can say about this book without giving too much away... It's just all so JUICY and addictive! I will say that we are introduced to some new characters -- Lennie Golden being the main one. As well as reuniniting with some characters some of us may have thought wouldn't come back -- Olympia and Dimirti Stanislopolous ... These three characters will influenece Lucky's life in a MAJOR way... You will just have to read to find out. This is yet another 10 star read from Ms. Collins.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent!, July 18, 2002
By
"jboogie40" (Minneapolis, MN) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
Jackie Collins knows how to keep a reader reading. The plot was excellent and Lucky was the bomb. She either liked you or she didn't and she read people like an open book. She was determined to be the "Woman" in a so called man's world. She took care of her responsibilities like a true lady. Lucky and Lennie were made for each other, even though they had many obstacles in their way. The Bonnatti's have once again learned not to mess with the Santangelo's. Gino and Lucky are still on top and loving it. This book has everything, so if you're hesitant about buying it, don't be. Collins knows how to write about a true woman.
