About the Author
The character of Lucky Luke became a legend thanks to Morris (his creator) and Goscinny. These two giants of the 9th art collaborated with passion for more than 20 years until the death of the famous scriptwriter. Goscinny is the author of the well-known Asterix, which he launched with Uderzo. He also co-authored Iznogoud with Tabary. In 1992, Morris received the "Grand Prix Special 20eme Anniversaire" from the international comics show at Angouleme, and in 1998, the French Minister of Culture decorated him with the rank of "Officier des Arts et des Lettres."

Set in an idealized Wild West Lucky Luke graphic novels are well drawn in colour and have a solid plot. The main characters are the hero Lucky Luke (white hat) and his smart, back-talking horse Jolly Jumper. Characters from other Lucky Luke novels also show up throughout the series.

Storyline: Two no-good, down-and-out gamblers stir up trouble in a mining town in the Wild West. They try to take over a gold mine from a stubborn old miner who has a mine with no gold. Per the format Lucky Luke saves the day.

Sounds prosaic but Goscinny's trademark humour is evident throughout and makes it work.

Try it, you'll like it.

This is another installment in the hugely popular Lucky Luke series, this time featuring an old gold miner who meets up with Luke. These English-language editions by 9th Cinebook got my 12-year-old hooked into the Lucky Luke series. The books tend to present a historical situation or event (the discovery of oil, Yakari and Great Eagle (Yakari S.)the range wars between ranchers and farmers, etc.) in a humorous, yet educational, light. A fun aspect of the Lucky Luke books is Luke's fictional interactions with real-life personalities from the Old West: Billy the Kid, The Dalton Gang, Jesse James, Calamity Jane and others.

A must own for any Lucky Luke fan... 40 minutes of sheer reading pleasure... and as always the aboslutely best graphics!
