This is a fun Chinese New Year book!, January 19, 2010
This review is from: Lucky New Year! (Board book)
I checked out more than a dozen Chinese New Years books from the library for my two year old and this was her favorite. Like the other reviewer mentioned, it is pop up and interactive with:
- zodiac calendar that you can turn
- tab to pull for mom to sweep
- orange sticker to scratch and sniff
- dim sum covers to lift
- tab to pull chopsticks holding noodles
- red envelope with coin inside
- crackling firecrackers (although it doesn't crackle very much)
- tab to pull to open and shut lion dancer's eyes and mouth
- two page pop up dragon parade
My daughter enjoys it so much, she has asked me to read this several times a day everyday for the past week.
FYI: This book uses the Cantonese pronunciation for the Chinese New Year greeting "Gung Hay Fat Choy" instead of the Mandarin version "Gung Xi Fa Cai".

nice book, November 9, 2011
My son is 18-month. He loves this book, which has lots of interactive designs for children to explore, i.e., pop-up dragon, movable broom, hiding steam bun, etc. However, he has no idea to keep the book in a neat way, and torn off most of the small functions. I would like to keep the book for a while till he knows not to tear books.

LOVE THIS BOOK!, February 2, 2011
This review is from: Lucky New Year! (Board book)
We saw this book at B&N and I bought it for my 2 year old son (27 months-bibliophile). He LOVES it. We HAVE to read it first (he gets to choose 3 books each night) every night before bed. He has been saying GUNG HAY FAT CHOY for days now. He loves the little flaps that he can move, such as when the little girl Lili helps her mama sweep the floor to get rid of the old and usher in the new, or when mama orders long noodles with a chop stick to signify a long life. It is colorful, and very informative. Initially, my son would tell me to shut the book on the last page with the dancing dragon, but then I started calling it "happy dragon" and now he loves it. There is a page that has a flap where you can open and close the dragons eyes, and we make that a fun experience too, so my child isn't scared. I would recommend this book to any parent who wants to broaden their child's cultural horizons :)
