Biography

Ronald Frederick Lane, known to his friends as Plonk, formed the Small Faces with Steve Marriott in 1965 and together with Kenney Jones and Ian McLagan made four years of amphetamine-fuelled R&B and Cockney music-hall psych, never quite making it in the U.S. except for "Itchycoo Park," but becoming Mod icons and godfathers of Britpop through domestic hits like "Tin Soldier," "What'cha Gonna Do… Read more in Amazon's Ronnie Lane Store

5.0 out of 5 stars Seven Songs And More From Lane's Abandoned Fourth Album, November 16, 2006
This review is from: Lucky Seven (Audio CD)
Lucky Seven takes its name from the fact that the last seven songs on this CD were the beginning of Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance fourth studio album before Ronnie abandon the project to go on tour with Eric Clapton. In July 1977, Eric Clapton, Charlie Hart, John Porter, Brian Belshaw and Hughie Flint joined Ronnie at Fishpool to record these seven tracks with the aid of the Rolling Stones Mobile. There are also four previously unreleased tracks recorded in London in 1981, during Ronnie's Big Dipper session, as well as an alternative version of How Come and live Slim Chance versions of Ooh La La and All or Nothing! Lucky Seven will surely please Ronnie Lane fans, since the quality and content of the music is just as good as other Slim Chance songs. As of this writing, new copies of this CD are being sold on Amazon for as little as $2.90 and this is a real bargain For Those Who Have Ears To Hear.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bottom of the bottle, August 9, 2002

(REAL NAME)
This review is from: Lucky Seven (Audio CD)
Of the zillion CDs that have come out after Ronnie Lane's death, this one is the best. The April Fool CD in particular was a let down. Lucky Seven is in a similar vein to April Fool; live cuts, leftovers and outtakes. What makes Lucky Seven different is the gloss these outtakes have. The sprite in Ronnie Lane shines through with the same mischievious grin as on the releases of he saw in his lifetime. One star bonus for a decent post-Small Faces cover without tobacco tins.
