About the Author

With forty-two books in print, award-winning author Sharon Sala, who also writes as Dinah McCall, still has to remind herself from time to time that this isn't a dream.

She learned to read at the age of four and has had her nose in a book ever since. Her introduction into romance came at an early age through the stories of Zane Gray, Grace Livingston Hill and Emily Loring. Her pride in contributing to the genre is echoed by the letters of her fans.

She's a four-time RITA finalist, Winner of the Janet Dailey Award, three-time Career Achievement winner from Romantic Times magazine, four-time winner of the National Reader's Choice Award and five-time winner of the Colorado Romance Writer's Award of Excellence, as well as numerous other industry awards.

Her books are regularly on bestseller lists, such as the New York Times extended list, USA Today, Publishers Weekly, Waldenbooks mass market, and many others.

She claims that, for her, learning to read was a matter of evolution, but learning to write and then being published was a revolution. It changed her life, her world and her fate.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharon Sala is one of those guaranteed reads..., September 29, 2002

This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
Lucky Houston has hotfooted it out of Cradle Creek, TN the first chance she got. With a check for five thousand dollars in her pocket, and farewells to her sisters, she boarded a bus to the town of glitter: Las Vegas. She'd made a promise to her deceased father, and she meant to keep it. She had a score to settle. But first she had to find a job...

Nick Chenault finds himself hanging out at the bus station, waiting for his father's valet/nurse to pick him up and return home, when he see's a woman he just knows he's meant to have. He can't take his eyes off her, and for the first time in years, finds himself trying to pick up a woman with a cheesy pick up a line. When Lucky refuses, and grabs a taxi, Nick is bummed-although he knows he would have been disappointed if she'd have accepted.

After securing a makeover, and a place to live, and having the good luck to have a wonderful landlady-Fluffy LaMont--Lucky goes on the hunt for a job-dealing cards. In this town, a gorgeous woman like her has trouble being taken seriously. But Fluffy has directed her to the famous Club 52-which just happens to be the club that Nick Chenault owns. Having mistaken Nick for a pimp at the bus stop, Lucky is astounded when she finally comes face to face with her boss after overhearing some disturbing things. Nick is even more amazed...and thrilled the one woman who has held his attention is now right where he can get to her.

Nick and Lucky are drawn to one another irresistibly, and it's not long before a relationship develops between them. But Lucky hasn't yet realized that the score she still has to settle will lead her inexplicably back to Nick...

In another wonderful love story, with elements of suspense, Ms. Sala has once again delivered. Lucky is a spunky, determined modern woman who has many obstacles to overcome, and a hard time accepting love. Nick is an incredibly sexy hero, who's just right for Ms. Independence, Lucky. With a cast of wonderful characters, several story lines that'll keep you turning the pages quickly, Ms. Sala ties up the Cradle Creek, TN trilogy. Lucky is a wonderful finale-not to be missed. If you didn't catch the other stories-Queen and Diamond-you'll definitely want to look them up!

3.0 out of 5 stars Great book to read, August 6, 2009
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
This is the last book of the Houston Sisters Trilogy

Setting: Modern times

This is the story of the youngest sister, Lucky, who came from a poor childhood with a gambler as her father. In the beginning of the book, she is making her way to Las Vegas after she and her sisters have buried their deadbeat father. The sisters all go their separate ways and this book follows Lucky of how she is afraid to trust and love and ends up coming to terms of her past, while falling in love with Nick who tried to pick her up in the beginning of the story. This is a memorable story that I enjoyed and have added to my collection of books. The theme of the sisters trilogy has to do with gambling and deck of cards. Hence the sisters' names. For Lucky, this is about Lucky's special talent with cards that she learned from her father.

This book is also where the three sisters have reunited again... though I never understood the author's farfetched idea of three loving sisters separating without making some sort of plans to keep in touch. I guess it might make sense as a ploy for a trilogy sister series to connect together, but couldn't she come up with a better excuse?

1st book- "Queen" Queenie's story
2nd book- "Diamond" Di's story
3rd book- "Lucky" Lucky's story

5.0 out of 5 stars Sharon Sala Will Not Let You Down!!!, February 10, 2003
This review is from: Lucky (Mass Market Paperback)
This is of course the third in a series and I have read the books out of order but that still does not matter. The story stands on it's own!

This was a great story with wonderful, likeable characters! Fluffy and Manny were wonderful secondary characters that really added to the story.

Lucky is a gamblers daughter that lived a hard life while growing up. She and her sister's buried their dad and they each went there separate ways. Lucky headed west and landed in Las Vegas Nevada "City of Sin". Here she finds friends, (Manny, and Fluffy the retired showgirl who is in her 80's) and the love of her life. Before she can enjoy all of this there is some stuff she has to survive before it means anything, plus there are things that she needs to come to terms with as well. This was a wonderful story of growth, forgiveness, and love.

Nick is everything that Lucky does not want in a man. He is good looking, rich, and a gambler (his family owns a very successful casino that Lucky works at). Yet she can't help but be drawn to this gentle loving man. Nick will do all that he can to help Lucky heal, prove to Lucky that loving him is not the gamble that she thinks it is, and at the same time do all that he can to stay alive. There is a man from his fathers past that is determined to ruin the Chenault's and killing Nick is not out of the question.

This was a great book and I can hardly wait until the other two in the series make to my mailbox. It has definitely earned a place on my "keeper" bookshelf. Fast paced, and touching with really likable characters and a tender love story is hard to find nowadays. Don't pass this one up!!!
