all music is new when it's new to you., July 13, 1999
By A Customer
I discovered the 'dudes by accident, right about the time they broke up. Fortunately, they left enough tasteful, soulful music in their wake that it took me two years to finally dig through all of it. "Lucky" is a great first taste of the subdudes. All the signature elements are there; crisp guitar, understated accordian, spirited mandolin and, as always, lead vocals and harmonies that come from the place where pleasure and pain, hope and despair all somehow co-exist. "Deepest Thoughts" will usually trigger a first-time listener to ask, "Who is this?", while "Bye Bye" could serve as an anthem to picking yourself up and dusting yourself off, right after love has kicked you down a flight of stairs. Buy this album, then move to "Annunciation". After that, you're on your own.

Favorite Subdudes Album, July 12, 2011
This review is from: Lucky (Audio CD)
This is the very first Subdudes album/cd. If you are Lucky enough to get a copy you will be delighted with every song on it. It is one of those albums that you can play over and over and enjoy every time. "Laughing at Birds" is my favorite song but they are all good. You need to have this rare find in your collection if you even like one Subdudes song. This is what started it all and it is the best! I've been listening to it for 18 years and had to replace my first copy...it is that good. I wish they would have become more famous, they certainly deserve it. They have recently split, but I have been Lucky enough to have seen them in person many times and it is the experience of a lifetime...If they play a gig together, treat yourself, it is music for the spirit and the soul. Creative, upbeat, soulful, heartfelt, romantic (No Man..oh my) and fun. They have it all.
I also like Street Symphony...the CD and the song of the same name...there are so many good ones...but Lucky...you will like all the songs!

The unique New Orleans sound of this group early in their career. They don't have a drummer, but they have a good beat.
