Lucy pearl.......R+B trio like no other....Classic!,
By I.B. (Westampton, NJ) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Lucy Pearl (Audio CD)
This new album from lucy pearl is better than I expected it to be. If I could give this 4 1/2 stars.... I would. First, i'll let u know not to expect anything new here as in style, music, or lyrics. Instead ...expect just what you see. It's a combination of raaphael saadiq's smooth singing and retro(toni, tony, tone) production, dawns smooth, creative singing, and Ali's Tight production(as known on albums for tribe called quest, common, etc..). Ali keeps it live and on the egde mostly producing while raaphael and dawn handle everything else. Songs like "Lucy pearl tells", "trippin", "Dance tonight", "Can't stand your mother", "lala", and "You"(with snoop and tip) are songs to really check out. I have these songs constantly on repeat. The intro is tight because it combines music from all the groups they came from (Envouge, (Tone, tony, toni), and Tribe called quest) and then goes straight into trippin. This is a cd you can play straight through without skipping because it just flows one song into the next. You can tell this was mostly a free style album from the way they sing and how it flows.....music to just kick back and enjoy no matter what mood your in. Some songs you can tell Dawn wrote and others Ali or Raaphael. They each put a piece of their style and what they was feelin into this cd. If this is what Lucy pearl is starting off with, I could only imagine what else is to come. Another must have cd for the '00. Get it!

.... Believe the hype,
By J. Highsmith (Mitchellville, Maryland United States) - See all my reviews

Sometimes, every now and then a artist or a group will come out and their release is hyped up and then you get the CD and its mediocre or nothing that you expected it to be. Lucy Pearl, which is composed of, Raphael Saadiq, from Tony!Toni!Tone!fame, Dawn Robinson, from En Vogue fame, and Ali Shaheed Muhammad, from A Tribe Called Quest fame. Now if that's not a supergroup, then let me know what is. The debut CD from Lucy Pearl lives up to all expectations and then some. The music appeal is comparable to what a 2000 Tony!Toni!Tone! CD might have been. With Raphael Saadiq and Ali Shaheed Muhammad sharing most of the production duties, you'll be bouncing like "Check The Rhime", "Electric Relaxation" and "Award Tour" had you bouncing in A Tribe Called Quest's heyday. Most of the tracks on Lucy Pearl's CD are dance tracks, but that doesn't hurt anything. Raphael's and Dawn's vocals blend like they have been together in the same group for years. The best example of this, is the 1st single, that was also on the "Love And Basketball" soundtrack, "Dance Tonight". There are other gems as well: "Trippin'", "Can't Stand Your Mother", "Good Love", "La La", etc. The year 2000 has already had a few tight R&B CDs so far: D'Angelo, Amel Larrieux, Joe, Carl Thomas, Dwayne Wiggins, as well as, Ms. Braxton herself, but the vibe that Lucy Pearl has created will be hard to stop for many years to come. I haven't seen a combination this good since chicken and mambo sauce.

HOT,
By Tony_Tone "Anthony Jamal Smith" (Washington, D.C., District of Columbia United States) - See all my reviews

As the summer heats up so does the music.. Lucy Pearl much anticipated debut cd has finally arrived and it was pretty much worth the wait.. With a line up like Raphael Sadiq ( from one of the best R&B outfits ever Tony Toni Tone) Dawn Robinson ( From one of the hottest female groups ever Envogue) Ali Shaheed Muhammad from A Tribe Called Quest you know it has to be hot! .. Their sound is basically has that Tony Toni Tone vibe Raphael Sadiq and Ali Shaheed Muhammad handle all the production.. If you like Tony Toni Tone I am sure you will no doubt love Lucy Pearl.. There is so much to chose from basically every song on this cd could be release as a single and be a major hit.. Among the highlites which are many to chose from Dance Tonight, Trippin, Everyday, Good Love( My personal favorite on the entire cd) Lucy Pearl's Way ( very reminicent of Tribe Called Quest's Electric Relaxation)... This is a must for all music fans to add this to your collection.. Another one of these cds you can put on a just let it play.. Pick It Up Enjoy !
