I. LOVE. THIS. BOOK! Perfect beach read.
We meet Lucy who is about to embark on a trip back to her home country of Australia from her now home, England to see her two bestfriends get married to one another. But right before takeoff, she receives a mystery text that her boyfriend has been sleeping with another girl... four times in the past month! and it just goes from there! I devoured this one in two days. Would have been one day if I didn't have to sleep... and go to work. :P I just adore british chicklit. There's just something so charming about the culture that I adore and always enjoy reading. I can just hear the accents as I'm reading. But THIS book makes it even better by throwing aussie in the mix! Hottttt! Paige Toon's style very much reminds me of one of my favorites, sophie kinsella. The relatable main character, the dreaaaamy leading man, the humor, the wit, the ease of reading through the dialogue. But Toon has one up on Kinsella. I actually didn't know how this one would end. Most chick-lit I've read, I find myself reading happily towards the end that I know is coming. If you're lucky enough to get a chance to read Toon's debut novel, you'll find yourself going back and forth with how you think it would end. I know I did. I knew how i wanted it to end, but Toon just worked the characters so well that I wouldn't be surprised if Lucy changed her mind in the end. I adored the characters that Toon had created. And the romance was almost unbearable. My heart was definitely feeling everything that Lucy was feeling. When her heart fluttered, so did mine. When her heart was breaking, so was mine. It was an emotional rollercoaster I didn't want to get off of. Her relationship with James was definitely believable, and I could understand why she was still with him. and i just ADORED nathan. he was deliciously drawn up. mmm. yumm. i'm thinkin i need to go to australia and find myself a hot aussie surfer. Toon is definitely a talented writer. I'm very excited to get a chance to read Toon's next novel. =)

Instantly Likable,

Lucy loves her boyfriend James, but just as she's about to get on a flight to watch her best friends get married in Australia, she gets a very disturbing text message that hints that he may not be as faithful as she thinks. Distraught in Australia, she takes comfort in her friends' happiness and turns her sights onto the surfer (and best friend's brother) Nathan. The complete opposite of lawyer James, Nathan is carefree and fun. Back in London Lucy has a choice - stay with James or pine for Nathan, who's far away. The decision is much harder when James becomes a bit more truthful and Nathan comes to visit. Once again, my best compliment is that I adore all of Toon's characters. They're my friends by the end, people I want to see again. The story is told very well and is far from any other chick lit. Toon never stays to the same tired plot of boy meets girl, they get together, something draws them apart, they're back together within the last few pages. She shows her variety and keeps the reader on their toes. The book was fun, fresh, and instantly likable.

Boring and predictable,

I have no idea which book the other reviewers are talking about. Certainly it could not be this one. While I love some "chick lit" escapism, this book was quite painful to read. It was so predictable and bland, I could have summarized it in a paragraph and saved myself the time it took to read this book. Also, Lucy, the titale character, was so repulsive that I had difficulty developing any sympathy or interest in her. Save your time and buy another book.
