Book Description

August 1, 1997
The Austrian economist Ludwig von Mises is increasingly recognized as one of the most important originators of modern economic thought. This book studies his ideas in a clear and systematic way and pulls out from Mises's own writings the main themes of his work.

Mises's central theme is an emphasis on microeconomics. All real economic decisions, he insists, are taken by particular people at particular times and places; the motivating forces, therefore, are personal and psychological. In this view, economics is not a science at all, but a discipline more like mathematics or geometry. Its principles are deduced not by observation and experiment, but from certain axiomatic facts about the nature of human choice. This basic insight allows Mises to study important topics such as entrepreneurship and competition in new and fruitful ways.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ludwig Von Mises, January 31, 2010
This review is from: Ludwig von Mises: Fountainhead of the Modern Microeconomics Revolution (Audio Cassette)
This book is a comprehensive summary of the economic ideas and theories of Ludwig Von Mises. It contains very little biographical or historical information. The author is careful to point out the source of the various ideas in Von Mises' books and publications if the reader is interested in further study. The book is divided into 3 parts. Part one lays the groundwork for the idea of subjectivism. Part two shows the various ways subjectivism was applied by Von Mises. Part three presents the theory of money. Proponents of the Austrian School of Economics will find in this book a logical presentation to use to defend and expound these economic theories. Opponents will find evidence of the Austrian School's errors and fallacies.
