Gilberto Gil fans... check it out!!,

This review is from: Lugar Comun (Audio CD)
Joao Donato
"Lugar Comun" (Philips, 1975) ------------------------------------- This one's a real eye-opener, a dynamic collaboration between Brazilian bossa/jazz pianist Joao Donato and tropicalia/MPB superstar Gilberto Gil. Here, both artists are riding the crest of the 1970's funk/jazz fusion scene, and both of them are really owning the sound. I'm not a huge Donato fan, but he really rocks on here, and if you're into Gilberto Gil, you HAVE to check this one out - most of the songs are his compositions, and in some ways this record is kind of a lost album from one of the most fruitful periods of his career. Definitely worth checking out. (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue Guide To Brazilian Music)
