The dosage information is wrong in the product description as it states one vertical drop is 3.25 mg of Iodine. The dosage that is shown under the product description is for Lugol's 5% solution.
One drop of Lugol's 2% is 1.65mg of Iodine per vertical drop, which shows how woefully inadequate the current Recommended Daily Allowance is, since one vertical drop is equal to a little more than 10 days of Iodine per the RDA.

The calculation for the vertical dosage in iodine is as follows:
The "United States Pharmaceutical ("USP") standard for Iodine and Potassium Iodide in iodine solutions"
"Iodine topical solution two percent U.S.P. is defined as having in each 100 ml [milliliters], not less than 1.8 grams and not more than 2.2 grams of iodine, and not less than 2.1 grams and not more than 2.6 grams of [potassium] iodide in water."

The following calculations are for the average of the range, which could vary by 10% either way and still be compliant:
100 ml = 4.125 grams (g) of iodine
100 ml = 4,125 mg of iodine
1 ml = 41.25 mg of iodine
1 ml = 25 vertical drops (this was my measurement; a bottle should contain a total of 59.15 x 25 vertical drops = 1,479 vertical drops per 2 fluid ounce bottle)
1 vertical drop = 1.65 mg of Iodine

For comparison to Iodoral tablets, the 2 fluid ounce bottle has 59.15 ml of solution containing 2,440 mg of Iodine or about 195 Iodoral 12.5 mg tablets.

This product is the same formula that was invented in 1829 and is terrific for supplementing health.

At 150 micrograms, the U.S. Recommended Daily Allowance is woefully insufficient to sustain healthy humans. Japanese daily consumption is on average over 8,500% (13milligrams) more than what the U.S. population is supposed to ingest.

The japanese also smoke more than americans, spend much less on health care, and are more densely populated. Despite this they have 10 times less obesity, many times less occurrence of almost all types of cancer, circulatory disease, and other types of disease.

While iodine is commonly commented on for thyroid necessity it also good for mental acuity and is necessary for many other unknown reasons.

I bought one bottle of this and used it for several months... just 2 drops a day. Next trip to the doctor he lowered the strength of my thyroid pills... (after 5 yrs on the same strength) If I increase the Lugols maybe I can get off the pills altogether. I just decided to take it slow to make sure I don't get too much.

To those who complain about the taste... NOOOO don't take it by itself. You can put a few drops in almost any drink, even water, and you won't taste it. I usually take mine with my morning coffee.

As a side benefit, did you know that iodine can be used to make dirty water safe for drinking?

I've only been taking this for about a week now and can tell a difference. I have more get up in the morning, and am not running for the couch to lay down on as soon as I walk in the door from work. I even feel like doing things around the house when I get home. But for me, with low-thyroid AND fibromyalgia, extreme exhaustion and fatigue is the 'norm', so anything above that is having a 'good' day.

I bought the liquid, and the twin pack for both price and convenience but just feel unsure of what dosage I am getting. And although it is a natural product, I feel unsure of what I'm doing, so will do some more research. Of course, I advise anyone to include your physician in the 'loop' so as not to self-prescribe with unknown factors - myself included.
Most certainly I would LOVE to get off the thyroid meds at some point; and it would be great if it affected my metabolism and the weight would begin to come off and 'normalize'. I'll keep you posted on anything noteworthy.

I do feel the negative reviews on here are absurd, as so often they are. I think people should just blog their concerns and questions in the place for discussion, but the review area should be strictly for that - reviewing the product.
From what I can tell, this seems to be a good product and worth buying again.

Every one should be taking this. Three to four drops for an adult daily in a drink (because it is only half strength). My metabolism has kicked up quite a bit., and so has my sex drive. It really works great and I really notice it when I am doing anything physical, as it allows your blood to carry more oxygen. I also have not been ill since Ive started taking this product. People have been using this stuff for over two hundred years safely to cure all types of ailments. Due to the chemicals in our food and water most of us are not getting enough iodine in our diet. Also iodine will help you to not absorb some of the radiation that has now encircled the globe from Fukishima. You really should be taking this. Just dont take my word for it, do the research yourself and look at the benefits of taking iodine on the internet. I trust Lugol's because it has been used for so long. The only draw back I had was my throat (thyroid) was a little swollen for like the first week I started taking this, but do not be scared, this is normal. It is your thyroid swelling from being deficient in iodine and then getting so much when you start dosing. It goes away once your thyroid loades up and you will start to feel wonderful.

This product works great for hypothyroidism. For those of you who are dropping it right into the mouth, you are really mixed up. It will taste terrible that way and no one could stand that! Put the drop(s) in a half glass of water and drink it to avoid gagging on straight iodine.

To use this product you'll have to do a lot of research on HOW. Zero instructions came with the product at all.

I bought this initially for my family. My mother is almost through her ovarian cancer treatment. Her naturopath has insisted that she must be deficient in iodine and her thyroid is underactive. I also bought this for myself as I have a uterine fibroid, fibrocystic breasts and heavy menstrual bleeding and I've read that this will help shrink the fibroid, and any cysts in my breasts and lessen the bleeding. Additionally, I bought this for my teen-aged son who has issues with focus and concentration in school. Lastly, I bought it for a close friend who is a diabetic. I also read that it helps with insulin production. In ALL cases, the outcome has been phenomenal. My mother's test results are showing that her thyroid is more in line with where it should be. After using for less than a week, my periods were markedly lighter, shorter and pain-free. No tenderness in my breasts which is basically how I gauge when my period is coming (sorry for being so graphic, but it's necessary here!). Still waiting on test results from the ultrasound to see if the iodine helped shrink the fibroid but I'm sure the results have to be in line with what I've already experienced. My son reported remarkable focus, concentration and energy within a day after starting the iodine and my friend reports the same. I'm beyond thrilled with the results of this product and have been recommending to everyone who asks!

Item as described and delivered as promised. Would like to have had move comprehensive information on product and it's use. Seems to help immediately with fatigue. I was indeed impressed. Would certainly purchase again.

Of course iodine tastes a bit funny, but it dilutes well in pretty much any drink. I love this product and will buy it again. The two pack is also convenient. Given the dosage I used (5 drops = ~13mg) it will last a very long time. I'll definately buy again.

as always this product works well for my hypothyroid. with the 2 bottles per pack it is the best deal I have found
