This review is from: Luigi Dallapiccola: Complete Works for Violin & Piano- Sonatina canonica; Tartiniana seconda; Due Studi; Quaderno musicale di Annalibera (Audio CD)
Luigi Dallapiccola falls under the ultra-modern category of 20th composers who pushed the limits of tonality and created a kind of music that escapes melody. This kind of music can be quite mystifying. If you have ever heard composers such as Schoenberg, Berg, Webern, Varese and Messiean then you know what I am talking about. On this CD, Dallapiccola is still a part of such a genre of avant-guarde classical music. However, I found these pieces to be much less difficult than I thought. In places, Dallapiccola is actually quite warm and friendly. It is almost like Schoenberg with a little Italian sauce over it.This music is not for everybody, but if you are an adventurous and imaginative listener, you may just like it. |
