Great concert, super DTS audio, high production value. 5/5!,
By Axayacatl (Ohio USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Luis Miguel: Vivo (DVD)
I love this DVD. I'm fortunate to have an incredible home theater system (162" front projection, 9-speaker Yamaha sound system) in my loft with 14' ceilings. When something is great on this system it's just totally amazing. (But this system can also be very unkind, it makes plain any deficiencies in the video or audio.)Luis Miguel "Vivo" (DTS) has zero deficiencies. None. It's an amazing concert video. If you are looking for a great concert on DVD, impressive lighting & visual effects, great 6.1 channel DTS audio, an energetic audience (having a great time), a dynamic performance with lots of excitement, then "Vivo" is for you. It builds exactly like a great concert should, lots of passion and increasing energy. The editing was outstanding, combining well-recorded video footage from many cameras. The editors know how to manage pace, just like any good DJ, and the concert successfully builds up energy throughout. This was a high production value concert with some very good laser-work, visual effects, and pyrotechnics. If you have a large-screen system (like home theater), along with a good audio setup, you will totally "fall into" this concert. It's nearly as good as being there live and up front. I've already watched this DVD three or four times completely and many more partial viewings. You definitely won't grow tired of this great performance and recording. In case it's not already quite clear, I think this is an amazing DVD! The DTS audio is very well done, with great use of soundstage and separation to reproduce the feel of a concert arena. This DVD makes a great example for the wonders of DTS. Enjoy!

The King of Latin Pop is Back!,
By A Customer
This review is from: Luis Miguel: Vivo (DVD)
This is, by far one of the best DVD concerts I have seen. The production is absolutely perfect (thanks to Tall Pony Productions)Luis Miguel as always displays his great talent. His voice is clear, powerful and unmistakeable(just another day at work for Luis). The camera angles and the overall mix of instruments, voices and crowd reaction is brilliant. Luis Miguel fans will love the bonus material!

EXCELLENT CONCERT FILM! Must-have for serious LM fans!,
By London Braithewaite "lbcarlysle@yahoo.com" (The United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Luis Miguel - Vivo [VHS] (VHS Tape)
This much anticipated video recording of Luis Miguel's latest concert production owes ALL of its excellence to the man himself. The stage is set in a format familiar to those who regularly attend his concerts (elegant--reminiscent of the stage designs of EL CONCIERTO). With a smooth choreography and stage direction, the production showcases magnificently all of the musicians (the brass, percussion, and rhythm/melody sections) and the chorus of beautiful singers. The lighting designs charge the up-tempo sets, as well as create the soft ambience of the intimacy of the ballads. It is a great credit to the artist that his specific performance is kept the main attraction of the concert production (ref. "lbcarlysle" review of VIVO audio compact disc at amazon.com); no extraneous additions to his stage (a dance troupe, for instance) are allowed to cause distraction to the talent which people have come to see and enjoy. The play list, incuding a wholly enjoyable extension of songs that does not appear on the audio recording, features the best of his career recordings, the recent as well as established favourites. The added benefit is given us as a sampling of his beloved "Mariachi 2000." This particular inclusion on the play list is a shimmering jewel and the latest glimpse of what will be long in coming: a complete album recording of mariachi compositions. It is the fervent hope of his fans, and, if in the works, should present the next chapter of success of what will be a long and prolific career. There is one minor frustration with this production, and it will be only you and I who shall be fastidious and point it out here: The lighting effects of the stage at times in the performance flood the lens of the camera and blind the exposure. In my experience, this is due to a few factors playing against the video recording crew. The concert is recorded entirely on film, and not video (ref. EL CONCIERTO, shot on video). The Director did not take into account the incompatibility of the lighting design with the type of camera lens utilised for that kind of film. A harsh contrast of colours is the regrettable result, and cause the performers to look as if they'd on too much make-up. It rids the star of his usual ruddy good looks, healthy and sun-bronzed. This unintended effect is easily explained, but difficult to understand how it escaped the cinematographer's attention. The final product is redeemed, however, by a superb film editor's finesse. His use of any of the available camera angles, coupled with some highly deft mixing and engineering reduce the problem to a minor frustration. The unfortunate effect is not enough to detract from the total excellence of the film (after all, the music and its interpretor is what this is all about!) and should not deter Luis Miguel's loyal listeners from enjoying this recording.

Luis Miguel Tour 2002!,
By HENRY (CA, USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Luis Miguel: Vivo (DVD)
Don't miss Luis Miguel on tour 2002. If you get to see him Live this is the next best thing. The clarity and sound is excellent on this DVD. It includes all of his classics along with some material from his latest at the time "Amarte es un Placer". Packed with great camera angles, visual lighting. Listening to this on a theatre surround sound equipped w/ DTS is highly recommended. I've seen this concert 50+ times.

Forget Hell Freezes Over,
By A Customer
This review is from: Luis Miguel: Vivo (DVD)
While the Eagles' DTS version of Hell Freezes Over may offer better sound and may be better for showing off your HT system, Vivo literally blows it away as entertainment value and for repeated viewings. Yeah, Hotel California and such are well recorded but face it, how many times can you watch those robots play? LM has a better band (it's true),is a master of his material and to top it off, totally enraptures his audience which includes the viewer. Quite Frankly, I don't think Sinatra in his prime could hold a candle to this guy. Forget not speaking spanish, any fool can tell what this guy is singing about!

FANTASTIC CONCERT VIDEO,
By Joel Camp (Sumner, WA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Luis Miguel - Vivo [VHS] (VHS Tape)
I first learned of Luis Miguel while eating dinner in a Cancun restaurant recently. The waiter showed me the CD jacket after I asked who they were playing on their sound system. When returning home to the States I purchased this video and I've been totally delighted with it since then. I only know about 3 words in Spanish but it doesn't matter. Luis' performance, his band, the beautiful women in the audience and the whole atmosphere of the concert make up the difference. Luis is an excellent performer and this is an excellent album but the video is much better since it includes all the visuals besides the music.
