My daughter read Luka's Quilt again last night. It's everything the "professional" reviewers said. Captures the flavor of life in Hawaii with wonderful illustrations and a very nice story with characters (Tutu, the grandmother and the Luka, her granddaughter) that are believable. We purchased this book in Hawaii, so it has special meaning for us. This story could also lead to a discussion with your child about who is right...the solution Tutu comes up with is good. Highly recommended. Planning a trip to Hawaii? Read this with your child. You'll like it.

I thought this would be a warm and fuzzy story. However, that ended when Luka didn't like the quilt her grandmother made for her, she wanted colorful flowers on it. So, she was mad at her grandmother, this happens with grandparents and their grandchildren. As a consequence, the parties had to come to a resolution- read the book to find out more.

I have a five year old grandaughter who is in kindergarten. She brought this book home from the school library for me to read to her three different weeks in two months. I decided she needed her own copy, so I asked her not to bring it home anymore. She was very disappointed, but she did as I asked. The look on her face when she got her own copy was indescribable. She is thrilled to have it and wants me to read it to her again and again.

The story is about a grandmother and her grandaughter and a disagreement they have over a quilt grandmother makes for her. It includes a resolution that is satisfactory to both.

Luka got a quilt from her tutu. Her tutu made it by herself. I gave the story five stars becase it is funny.
