I own Darrell Bock's 2-volume work on Luke with the Baker Exegetical Series. I found this commentary to be even more helpful. Bock displays an in-depth understanding of the Gospel of Luke. Not only does he present a sound exposition of the message of Luke, but he gives the reader excellent application for today. I own many of the volumes in the NIV Application Commentary. This one is one of the best in the series. You won't be disappointed with this commentary on Luke.

On Kindle this is a useless resource. How can you use it as a reference with no way to find a passage.

book arrived in a timely fashion; book was in excellent condition; experience was "just perfect." I found this method of buying commentaries better than going to a Christian book store. No crowds to fight;no apathetic clerk to tolerate. Just perfect.

this book is amazing both academically and devotionally. easy to read and super informative. i'm acing my lucan pneumatology class :)

This commentary provides the Pastor with yet another excellent pratical tool in helping to demonstrate the practicality of God's word to His people and the world around them. I love the series and have used it for years. This member of the collection continues the tradition of excellence established by the volumes previously published. I highly recommend it.

I got this book because I was looking for a good commentary that didn't bog down in the "synoptic problem". This seemed like a good pick based on some recommendations I read here at Amazon (mostly on other pages referring to this book).

The book was not a smooth read. It came out very disjointed... sort of like a series of fairly good sermons about christian living and ethics. But unsatisfying as a whole. Each section was looked at from three or four viewpoints... interesting but tediously repetitive. The gospel of Luke is repetitive enough as it is.

Some of the disjointedness is due to the structure of book of Luke itself. Choppy, filled with vignettes and tangents. Again, I was looking for discussion about why this verse was included with that verse etc. BUT without drowning in the "synoptic problem".

I like books that have a strong thesis. A line of reasoning that I can follow throughout. This book did not have it. Perhaps I am looking for more of a literary interpretation and commentary.

I got some interesting notes from the book but was disappointed.
