I read Black's commentary in preparation for a Bible class I was teaching on the Gospel of Luke. I found his work to be easy to read yet up to date and containing many wonderful insights. In addition to the commentary on the text itself, the book also includes a number of "supplemental studies" giving deeper insight into topics raised by modern readers of Luke. Such topics include: Anti-Semitism, Baptism, Destruction of Jerusalem and End of Time, Pharisees, Son of Man, and many more. A good deal of information is also contained in footnotes which point the reader to other resources.

I would highly recommend this work to help the individual or teacher who wants to gain a better understanding of Luke's Gospel. It is particularly well suited for the teacher with limited preparation time who needs a well thought out commentary that can be quickly read.
