Imagine if you will that the life of the apostle Paul hangs in the balance as Luke, his trusted friend, is commissioned by a sympathetic Roman senator to find and report the truth about the life and ministry of Jesus. In this 1st of a 3-part fictionalized "story behind the story" of Luke's Gospel, listeners will sense the fear as Luke finds himself in the thick of thieves and revolutionaries, and be privy to a tender encounter between Luke and Mary as she recounts the memories surrounding Jesus' miraculous birth. This dramatic audio production is an appropriate story for Christmas time or anytime!

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent production values and high quality storytelling, September 18, 2009
This review is from: The Luke Reports Chapter 1: Child of Promise (Radio Theatre) (Audio CD)
This series (three products in total make up the whole story) is simply marvelous from both an entertainment point of view and a Biblical one.

Any time you retell Bibilical stories you have to interpret. It is a difficult task to create a work that remains true to the Bible while being relevant to today's audience, and understanding that this audience is geared toward faster-moving story lines. But there's no invention here. No secret wife of Jesus. No hidden message. No need to embellish the story that Luke undertakes to reveal. Its power remains.

It's something of a relief to be able to say that the writer and staff who produced this series really bring the story of Luke to life, making it work in context while adding greater dimensionality through sound, music, and excellent voice acting.

5.0 out of 5 stars A fascinating, educational, and delightful presentation, January 10, 2010
This review is from: The Luke Reports Chapter 1: Child of Promise (Radio Theatre) (Audio CD)
What a delight to find this. The listener feels he/she is transported back to and living with Luke as he goes about getting the information necessary to write an accurate account of the events surrounding the birth and life of Jesus and how they affected those around him. The makers have done an excellent job of being faithful in not embelishing the Bible text or distorting the facts but rather they present plausible context that shows how the people of the day might have perceived them.

The choice of actor voices is excellent and really creates an enthralling experience as you get to know them. The script is well done and a cut above the often simplistic and formulaic presentation that sometimes lessens the fullness of the true message of the Bible in these types of presentations.

Warning! Once you start listening, it will be hard to turn it off so schedule accordingly....not as I did staying up until 2 in the morning to hear the conclusion!

The beauty of the style of this presentation is that both children and adults will find it equally fun....and educational.....enjoy!
